Pure Storm Ltd Noisy Buttcap Repair

Hi guys! I'm new to the forums (but I've been reading threads for a few weeks) and I have a question for all Pure Storm Ltd lovers out there.

How exactly did you manage to repair the squeaky/noisy buttcap issue of this racquet? I hear that I could re-staple or use some glue?!?!

I really love my (two) racquets but one of them has this problem and when I use it the sound the buttcap makes really annoys me during a game. I can't concentrate while playing!!!

I'm really clueless as of how to staple or re-glue a buttcap. I never removed a grip before (always used overgrips) and I'm not confident to remove the leather grip and mess something up...

Would someone be kind enough to make me a step-by-step guide? Maybe somebody took pictures while doing it?

Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks a lot.

the whole storm line seems to have this problem, but i'm not the best guide. its caused by the staples they use to secure the butt cap being too short and thin to do their small but required job.

Yeah I too understand that's it's quite a frequent problem of Babolat racquets! So how I can fix my racquet? Thanks for the quick answer Bartelby.

you have either to staple larger staples into the butt cap and shaft or take the ones there out and super glue the cap in.

you'll probably need a new leather grip which you'll need to either staple or glue on.

Okay so I see that the "changing the grip" part is easy but what about the staples?

The buttcap sits inside or outside of the handle? Does it matter?
All I have to do is staple the buttcap with the handle? There's no risk of damaging the racquet?

Thanks again,

the buttcap fits over the handle so its usually stapled in with two staples and a third smaller staple seated diagonally fixes the grip

you need a staple gun and the right sized staple so too small and it won't work and too large might break something

Okay thanks for the info!

But what about glue? I heard some people used SuperGlue with success and some others it didn't work...

Any advice from people that used glue to fix their buttcap problem?

Thanks,

I've probably answered this exact question 3 or 4 times, but here is what I did.

I carefully removed the grip and the plastic wrap on the handle so it was down to the bare foam. Then I carefully removed the staples so I could reuse them.

Before putting the butt cap back on, I used some electrical tape and wrapped the handle once. This takes up the gap from the butt cap being just a bit large. Once you've put the cap back on, wiggle it and make sure it's firm. Depending on the thickness of your tape you may want a second wrap. There should be no wiggle at all now.

Once you done that, you can carefully reinsert the staples and reapply the grip. I recommend using some spray adhesive when reapplying the grip as the foam handle is very slick and the grip's original tape is probably not enough to keep it from sliding now that it's been removed.

It's been over a year since I did this to mine, and they haven't made a peep since.

HTH.

@Kevo
Sorry for making you guys repeat the procedure.

So basically, remove everything (grip, staples, buttcap) and then put electrical tape? no need for glue, that's perfect!
After that, put the cap back, reinsert the staples in their holes and put the grip back on.

A quick question: You used electrical tape all the way on the handle to make it even, right?

Thanks a lot,

I did this as well. Used Kevo's method, but simply used new staples (diagonal so they would fit on a flat side of the butt cap). Staples a bit larger than those installed, wasn't about to buy some specialty tool / staples. This worked without issue until I decided to switch to a racquet with a bit more oomph.
