Pure Storm +?

We now have the Pure Control + but I can't find the equivalent frame in the Pure Storm lineup. As the new racquets are basically new PJ's of the PS maybe this is a new frame? Anyone know for sure? Was there an extended version of the Pure Storm (not Tour or Ltd)?

Sorry, should have been more specific. It was the 95" I was looking at. There doesn't seem to be a direct predecessor to this racquet in the Storm line unless I am getting my Tours, Ltd's, +'s and head sizes confused which is entirely possible!

Tempted due to the stellar review but also realize that the PC line is basically a cosmetic update. Why cant I find a Pure Storm 95 with a 27.5" length? Unless Babolat decided to bring out a new frame for the PC range?

Maybe Babolat Official knows?

Yes, you are getting the models confused.

Pure Storm -> Pure Control
Pure Storm Tour -> Pure Control Tour
Pure Storm Ltd -> Pure Control 95

Smirker, that's the 95.

The Pure Control 95 replaced the Pure Storm Ltd.
And a PS Ltd Plus was available.

Being a bit thick about this. Realize you are answering my question but the specs are different. PS ltd + is heavier and more flexible than the PC+

Ok, looking at it on TW Europe the specs of the PS LTD+ are pretty similar to the PC95+ give or take a few grams and sw points. As the PS LTD + was a Europe only frame and as rare as hen's teeth it will just be easier to get a demo of the PC version.

Thanks for the pointers btw, it's easy to confuse a stupid person!

What I wrote was that the 95 Plus had a direct predecessor and that was the Storm Ltd. Plus. Same unstrung weight, same beam, same mold.

That's it from me. Good luck with whatever it is that you're searching for.

Sorry I couldn't help you more.
Not really a fan of Babolat. The last model I liked from their offering was an old Pure Control Zylon Plus. That is if I correctly identified the model I'm thinking of.

Your clarification was very helpful in sorting out where the new models fit in relation to the old. I do find their range of rackets confusing. Where does the Strike fit exactly? Neither a stiff, thick beamed tweener like the Pure Drive nor a thin, flexy racket like the Pure Control. as for the Aeropro, that thing should come with a health warning.

Not a fan of Babs either but the Pure Control seems to be an outlier in their range. I.e, lower powered and flexible with good feel. The standard Pure Conrol 95 would be too low powered I think but the extended version could be just what I am after. Can demo from TW Europe so I think that will be my next step.

Yes, you are getting the models confused.

Pure Storm =/= Pure Control
Pure Storm Tour =/= Pure Control Tour
Pure Storm Ltd =/= Pure Control 95

There ya go, fixed it for ya!

:D

Technically Babolat discontinued the Pure Storm line and introduced the Pure Control line and the two have NOTHING to do with one another. The feel is completely different.

Even Babolat pros on tour using the Pure Storm aren't repainting their Pure Storms with Pure Control colors because the products are so radically different. Not even Babolat would run the risk of trying to push Pure Controls as anything like Pure Storms since even they know the two lines are so different.

Sarcastic but true. Not only Babolat who do this to be fair. Bit naughty to say they are using some new fangled carbon when in fact its just new paint. Maybe TW gave the 95+ such a good review as they didn't have the previous version in the US. Going to be hard to track down a PS LTD +. I doubt Babolat sold more than a few hundred world wide. Might be stuck with the new paint job anyway.

I strongly recommend you find a used Pure Storm GT. I haven't tried the Pure Control, but the GT is NOT underpowered at all. It has much more power than, say, a prestige or radical mp. I need to put a low power poly in it to tame it's power. It's a 98 head with a rather open pattern (16x20). Best mix of control, power, maneuverability and comfort I've found. And I've tried (too) many frames.

I add 15g in the handle of mine to make it more headlight and a bit more solid though.

Thanks for the tip. I may well do that. Leather grip may well sort out the balance. I have a Radical MP (Liquidmetal version) and that doesn't feel under powered to me so a bit more power is fine. I like 16x20 as it is a good compromise between power/control. Pure Storms are still available new over here. The 95" and 18x20 of the PC+ might be too much to handle but I will probably demo it and see if I can pick up a used PS.

The PS reminds me of my Dunlop M-fil 300's which I loved but the sweetspot was small. How is it on the PS?

I confirm the Pure Control is a different line than the Pure Storm (not just cosmetic, as previous updates to the Pure Storm family). Similar target in terms of racket performance, but the two lines play differently. The change is big enough that most Pure Storm pros did not switch to the Pure Control.
