It looks like a 5 setter to me. Berdych looks good and Federer will be made to work hard. That could be a good thing if the match doesn't last longer than 3.5 hrs. Federer looked very off today, so maybe he needs a tough match to raise his level. I think it will be Federer in 5, but if he manages to beat Berdych in 4 inside 3 hrs, that will be just perfect.

I didn't see either but Berdych looked very impressive to me against Delpo (was hitting the ball very cleanly) and I think Fed has been going too much on auto-pilot in these first few rounds. I think this is the match that will either wake him up or send him home.

Sounds about right, if Federer doesn't raise his game at all for this one it probably means he can't.

Berdych can compete but will not. This QF has very similar feel as of Nadal's QF. Both Cilic and Berdych has tools to win their respective matches but unlikely to bring those tools in matches those matter.

Yes. Cilic and Berdych may have the tools to compete but do they have the MENTAL tools to win against the top 2 ranked players in the world. Cilic and Berdych will go into the match knowing that any mental miscues will result in an L.

Tough one for federer. He defeated him last year in wimbledon although berdych played some impeccable tennis... it will be close

i hate to say this.. but berdych is going to win.. he is hitting the ball better than he ever has.. clean, crisp and on the lines.. federer's ground strokes so far have been meh.. i have a feeling fed will be blown off the court..

Fed hasn't lost a set and he looks rusty?

But last year he lost a set to Melzer and he looked god mode.

What are people here smoking?
Got his serve broken only twice and he's already in a QF, but, somehow, he looks rusty. I don't know what people expect from him, but he's been as good as he needed to be.

Having said that, Birdman's destructions of Delpo and Fognini are a good indicator of his great form, so it should be a high quality encounter against Roger.

They want Federer to humiliate his opponent for no reason. Berdych beating Delpo and Fognini are not good indicators given that Delpo has only made the QF twice and the Fognini is Fognini. Berdych has been broken plenty of times in his matches and has a low FS %. If those things don’t improve, Federer only needs an opening in each set.

No chance against Federer, regardless of whatever mugs he beat to get here. Wouldn't be surprised if Fed fans start hyping him up as a tough opponent, lmao.

Obviously Berdych has "only" beaten Delpo and Fognini but the Winner-UE ratio from the matches is insane. I don't really think his form can be downplayed based on the opponents. However it only matters if he can bring that form to this match.

I think Berdych has been playing with much more confidence recently or perhaps a slight carefree -ness and could surprise everyone here, he could hit Fed off the court...

No way Federer isn't losing a set here.

Should be enough to get the job done in 4, but an upset is equally possible. Match will definitely be at night so that plays into Fed's hands a bit.

Berdych is playing increadible and I think it all comes down to his mental state. With the level he's on right now I would not be surprised at all if he beats Fed. This one has upset written all over it imo.

Once again Berdych will feel like he has a chance at winning a Slam, the final is close.

Wonder if this will boost him.

Berdych has been broken 9 times in the tournament, Federer 2 times. Granted Berdych has played better opponents, but since you'd expect Federer to achieve at least the 'average' break percentage against Berdych what this means is:
-Federer should have no problem breaking Berdych at least 2 times, if not 3.
-If Federer achieves this breaking in separate sets, and maintains his own high level on serve, the match will be his in 3/4 sets, with 1-2 TBs potentially. Federer's hold percentage only really drops when he plays super good returners or the rest of the Big 4, of which Berdych is neither.

Honestly, this is a golden chance for Roger. If he beats Berdych, he is almost in the final. I just hope he brings the goods on wednesday

Federer and Berdych have played each other every single season since 2004...that’s an amazing 15 years straight! Is that a record in the Open Era?
Never thought of that before. Interesting.

They will also have played more slam matches than Sampras-Agassi and the 3rd most after his Djokodal slam meetings.

Isn't it impressive that Fed hasn't even lost a set.

As usual Hitman you were right about Fed being the favorite here. With Djokovic out who can threaten him? I'm almost hoping Nadal doesn't get to the final.

Yeah, I saw this coming from a mile away. Federer is solid fav in my eyes, two potential bullets dodged, no Del Potro, no Djokovic, not even a Zverev. Berdych will try, but this is where Federer is going to ascend and show his true form. I will say this now, if he plays Nadal in the final, as I expect, he beats him in four sets.

Zverev was never a worry in my eyes.

Perfectly agree. So much about his tough draw. Opened up nicely.

I'm very sad about Djokovic still struggling with injury. Tennis needs him. This is starting to look like 2006 2007 with Fed winning everything except clay where Rafa wins .No Murray, no Stan and no Ultron.

More worried about this match because the draw has opened up.
However last year we doubted whether his level would be raised - but we were proven wrong everytime. This is barring injury, of course.
Sticking with Fed in 3/4 - Berdych's hold game is not consistent enough and he will be drawn into errors when rushed and on the defensive.

Well, that's Birdman, it's never easy for him. Remember how many times his serve had been broken at Wimbledon last year and how many sets he'd lost, but he still had more than a decent performance against Roger. Not saying he'll win, of course, just that we could have a good match.
Still, regardless of Delpo's history at the AO, I find Birdman's performance impressive, he was hitting the ball so cleanly with both wings. I hope he doesn't underperform in the QF.

Tennis needed Federer because w/o him, Nadal would be winning everything.

It is all about the match up. Federer hits more spin and takes the ball much earlier than Del Potro. Last year this caused a great problem for Berdych. This year Berdych is hitting the fall better so it might or might not be an issue. If it is not an issue Federer will have a really tough match.
