racquet for my mom

I got my mother back into tennis and I am looking for a racquet for her. She learned to play in the late 70s or early 80s on wood racquets and dirt courts.

She plays with a continental grip on both sides and has very long and loopy takebacks for her strokes. So far she has had her best success using my dunlop 200 lite. Generating enough power is definitely not a problem. She had trouble controlling the power of game improvement racquets like the head tis6.

Any ideas on a racquet for her? Right now, I am thinking about something flexy and large. Maybe the prince exo3 tour or head youtek radical oversize.

If she grew up playing with woodies, I would recommend a 'tweener' in the 11 oz range. Head size is up to her and depends on her ability to track the ball.

The blx blade team looks like a good fit.

From my understanding tweeners are generally stiffer with more power. Considering the 200 lite has about the right amount of power, can you suggest a tweener with a similar level?

Go to Racquet Finder and select Manufacturer=Dunlop and Racquet Name=Lite. Your 200 Lite shows up with
11.5 oz and and SW of 308 (which is pretty low.) Click on Similar and Volkl Catapult 10 and the Bio 200 Lite appear mainly due to the lower RA requirement. I think she would do fine with the Head Instinct models or any of the Wilson Team series frames.

If the frame and strings feel too stiff, change to softer strings or lower the tension.

That's really nice. Try some princes, those are really comfy racquets especially for someone your mother's age.

IMO, I would stay away from head. Even the tweeners aren't as comfy as some other brands out there. I think you're hitting the right direction when you're looking towards princes. Maybe a wilson or a yonex? Check this one out.

I think the most important thing is not so much the performance (she's not going on tour or playing tournies) get her something that will extend her tennis playing years by something that won't degrade her body or injure her in anyway. Watch out for racquets that are abrasive to wrists, finger joints, shoulder and overall joints. At your mother's age, that's the most important thing.
