RIP

I'm putting this news here cos there have been insensitive remarks about Rafa's wife missing a few of his matches. Her dad was ailing for a few years and now is gone too young

Pain in the Nadal-Perelló family. The Mallorcan tennis player's father-in-law has died in his hometown, Manacor , at just 63 years of age and after an illness that he had suffered from for years.

The news, advanced by the Mallorcan newspaper Última Hora , has caused consternation in Manacor. It is a bitter pill for the Nadals after the birth last October of the couple's only child, little Rafael.

Rafa's wife's father, Miquel Perelló, had been a businessman dedicated to the construction sector , and was highly appreciated in the town, where he was known by the nickname 'Patró' (patron).

VERY DISCREET

Belonging to a middle-class family and married to a municipal employee, María Pascual, who has been by his side until the last moment, was never under the spotlight despite being the father-in-law of one of the most successful athletes in the history of soccer. Spanish sport, the tennis player with the most major tournaments won.

In Manacor he is fondly remembered these days, as a discreet person, a quality inherited by his daughter Xisca, Nadal's wife, fleeing from fame and public exposure. A typical character of the island.

BITTERSWEET SEASON

The tennis player is having a bittersweet year. On the one hand, he is enthusiastic about his child, whom, according to sources close to him, he accompanies swimming classes for babies in the morning. he is happy with him and the family will soon be able to open their new house, a formidable mansion on the seafront in Porto Cristo, the port where Rafa grew up, where he spent entire childhood and where he lives whenever he comes back to disconnect of the pressure.

On the other side of the scale, although on a professional level, Rafa continues to drag his problems with injuries, which are taking him away from the courts, much to his regret. This same week he announced that he will not be in the Master 1000 in Madrid due to his iliopsoas injury, the treacherous muscle that was torn in the Australian open

Sad to hear this,

It can be extremely hard to lose a parent.

Actually he has been playing almost every day.

I say something decent and non-suspicious about the guy and I still get the "Akshually"

I obviously meant playing tournaments. But hey, since you're here to correct me and tell me he's playing a lot...then how is he also too injured to play tour events?

Maybe because you don't have to run to balls when you get them feed to you to practice forehands?

Too young to pass away. RIP

The article states "businessman". Yea stress is the biggest killer there is sadly. If you want a live a longer life, stay away from "white collar Business" "Mo Money Mo Problems"

The Nadal's have no shortage of family to support each other with, so I'm sure the mourning won't interfere with Nadal's quest for Slam title #23.

With this news I doubt Rafa will even play RG. Even if he does he's not going to be anywhere near his best physically or mentally. He could not handle his parent's divorce or death of Seve Ballesteros. This one is too close to his heart. He's so close to his family members.

Death of an in-law is nowhere near as emotional as your parents separating, especially considering Nadal had been living with his parents when it happened.
Also, Nadal is a lot older now, so the comparison cannot be made for that reason too.
Based on what we've heard in the last week from Uncle Toni, and now Nadal, he'll only play Roland Garros if 100% fit.
That means if we see him at Roland Garros, he's winning Slam #23.
Heck, he could win Rome too.

Are you on crack. It's his father in law, not father.
