RANT: Okay, so I broke my polyster strings...

Well, you heard the title. I was out hitting today against a person who I rarely beat. In fact, for those that have viewed my other post (the one about playing your nemesis), I have beaten him 3 times out of the 40+ times we've played. The times I did beat him were close games. Well, I beat him today...6-1, 6-1. I felt great today...seemed like everything was working in perfect balance, with maybe the exception of my first serve percentage, which was about 30%.

In any case, this is not the subject of this post, just some background. I was playing with a Hurricane/Synthetic Gut setup and during the pre-match warmup, I jokingly hit a hard return off of a hard serve. I snapped my Hurricane string (2 mains actually). I was probably at the 10 hour mark playing with that racket before the strings broke. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? I played with Hurricane strings for a brief time (a month) last summer and I found them IMPOSSIBLE to break. But, I suppose they do break. Anyone else feel my pain? :)

i typically break poly hybrids after about 12 to 16 hours of play. a lot more force is imparted on the mains when the mains are poly and crosses are syn guts so it breaks a lot quicker than a full poly job.

I break the full polyester job in my signature in about two hours. I string about 10 of my rackets each week. So, no; I do not feel your pain. In fact, I envy the extreme longevity of your strings!

well...all strings, no matter what, will eventually break. the #1 at my school broke 4 hurricane mains in the center of the racket from one overhead.

If you hit up toward the top, I don't care what string you're using, you stand a good choice of snapping it, even Kevlar, been there, seen it, dealt with the person moaning about it. Fromd the sound of what happened, you either hit up high or mis hit up there, and it's the death knell for any string.
