Broke My Strings in 4-5 Hours

Hey all,

I've been playing with two different hybrids lately. Babolat Pro Hurricane Tour 16 in the mains with Technifibre Multi-Feel 16 in the crosses or Technifibre pro red code 16 in the mains with Technifibre Multi-Feel 16 in crosses. I absolutely love them both but I am popping strings like crazy. I played 4 hours yesterday and 30 minutes to an hour today with a freshly strung racket and the multifeel popped (it was absolutely shredded). This has become pretty standard with these setups.

Does the Multifeel just have terrible durability? Maybe some recommendations for a similar string that will last me a little longer? The price is pretty hard to beat too. I can't go full polyester my elbow can't handle that. I just don't have the time or money to be stringing rackets this frequently.

Thanks for any help guys!

I've used multi-feel in the mains on a multi/poly hybrid before. I honestly felt it did not complement the poly well at all. I'd recommend it strictly in a pure bed only.

A few of the players around here(NJ) have used TF duramix, wilson shock shield, and solinco revolution to some degree of success in their poly hybrids.

thanks for the suggestions filphil!

Also, how important is differing the tensions in these hybrids? I go with both at about 58 could that be affecting the durability?

lower tensions will help your durability, but only marginally. if your arm can handle it, you should try full polyester. I get 2-3 hours of a 1.30mm poly/multi hybrid (poly mains), and I get 10-12 hours out of full poly (1.25mm) regardless of my tension. I do string in the mid-high 50s on a Pure Drive Roddick. Just a thought.

You might also try a soft syngut like Sweet16 or Gamma(no wearguard).
It may not feel quite as nice, but you'll get better durability and save a few $$.

I only got about 4 hours from a full bed of MultiFeel. The durability of this string is not good. I also agree that it does not work well as a cross for some reason. My favorite multi cross that I've tried to date is Genesis Thunder Blast. It would typically break at the 12-15 hour mark. By then, the poly should be cut out anyways.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I guess I just picked a really bad string durability wise although I don't agree with it not being a good hybrid string. Anyways, my arm can't handle a full poly so I will go mess around with some other multis to hybrid with. Thanks again!

Correction to my post above. It's Solinco VANQUISH and not revolution. Sorry about that mix up.

Theoretically multifeel would add a ton of softness to a string bed. What I personally didn't like was how soft the outer coating of the string was. I described it as gummy although mikeler, the guru of the multis, doesn't describe it in that way. This did not help the strings move back in to place after contact with the ball. If you did not know already, the spin potential of poly comes from the ability of the strings to snap back. IMO, what happens with multi feel is that the poly string digs in to the multi and creates friction for the string.

Take a look at Mikeler's thread and PVAUDIO's threads for multi and hybrids. Both are very good places to start.

I use poly/syn gut hybrids and its always the syn gut cutting into the poly mains. The syn gut usually looks really beat up after some use but for the most part they seem to hold up well. Using a syn gut cross will likely solve the premature cross string breakage issue.

If you really want to use a multi, I remember there are a few that when used in full beds, the crosses hold up well and cut into the mains, rather than the mains fraying the crosses. The multis that wear this way may hold up better as crosses than what you are currently using. Just ask around these boards for this and I'm sure you'll get some recommendations.
