Hi,

Looking for a reaction and insights on what I have discovered regarding the newer version of the ProKennex 5G. I own both the older version and the newer version.

The two versions of the frame are not even close in feel.. The older version feeling very much a standard "players" frame.. with the never version feeling more like a "tweener" with more control.

The weight of the older model I own is 12.1 oz.. both newer frames I own are 11.4 oz.

Anyone have both?? or either I would love to hear your insights.. :)

What do you mean by "tweener"? The new one feels slightly "stiffer". I also hate the new grip, so I'll probably replace it

I've got an old PK5G (the old paint job) I'm selling in the FS/FT section if you're interested. Figured I'd have to switch to the new one and hopefully the stiffness is from new strings.

BTW, don't try the Ki5 if you like the old PK5G feel. Totally different. Trying to sell that as well...knew I should have done a demo from TW first...

PK 5G Observations

I have both the pre-2001 and 2001. I found the pre-2001 to have less flex, and be, accordingly, more powerful, than the 2001 version. I use the 2001 version. ProKennex indicates that the specs are the same, but, they feel different to me. Both versions are great, just a matter of preference. Some days I go for the pre-2001, has more power. Most days its the 2001 version.

The 2001 version is 11.7oz (no mods). I will need to weigh the pre-2001, for comparison.

Hi,

Which frame did you feel was easier to swing... or which one had the lower SW?

Steve

Hi,

I felt that the newer model was "suped-up" over the older one... easiler to get moving thur the air..a bit stiffer and lighter and with greater power using the same swing.. making it more of hybrid.. control and power being more equal than.. the greater control of the older model.

Steve

Steve,

The experience I had with the pre and post 2001 5g models is similar to that of KENYEE and yourself. In my opinion, the newer version is lighter, a bit less head light, and stiffer than the older model. I modified it using lead to get the two versions to the same weight and balance, and same string setup, but they still differed significantly from each other. On occasion, my elbow hurt after using the new version. I much preferred the older version.

Hope this helps.
