Red Code / X-One Hybrid Question

I am about to have Technifibre Pro Red Code Mains and X-One Biphase Crosses hybrid strung on my racket. (Prince Graphite 95 sq in.)

I have never done a poly - multi hybrid before so I was wondering at what tension should I string each at to be similar to what I usually use which is 58lbs. full synthetic gut.

Also I have been curious about +2lbs and -2lbs on the crosses and was wondering if there are advantages/disadvantages to each. The majority of people on this forum seem to prefer +2lbs on the crosses.

I had this hybrid combo at 58 main RC/ 59 cross X-2 on my two K ProStaff. I was surprise by the lack of vibration and great linear control.

The first stringjob lasted about three weeks, with the last week, the Biphase shredding. Plus the Red Code mains had stretched out and trampolined too much.

The second stringjob, I ended cutting out the Biphase and tried RC with Gosen Sheep Micro. Although the Gosen gave the hybrid more pop, it did not feel as smooth as the original RC/X-2.

I currently play full RC on two rackets, Volkl PB10 midplus. I have them at different tensions 55 and 60. I feel at full RC at 55 is best, even better than the hybrid RC/X-2 mentioned above. It even feels better than RC/VS gut. But that's just me. I like more bite than a pure soft feel.

My suggestion would be to string the PRC around the same tension you were already using and have the X-1 tightened up a bit, probably to around 62.

I played with this hybrid twice and it was very nice for about the first two hours. After that, the X-1 had lost tension and was way too powerful. I loved the setup though because it was nice. Very responsive with plenty of pop and good touch too.

Best of luck to you with your hybrid.

I had it strung up with PRC Mains @ 60 and X-One Cross @ 58. It was a little stiff for the first hour or so...then it loosened up a bit and now after about 56 hours of play its starting to trampoline. When I string it again I will defiantly try dropping the PRC tension down. Keeping the cross tension higher. Maybe try it at 56/58.

One thing I did notice was that my cross strings were moving like crazy even in the first few hours. I guess this is normal with Poly/Multi Hybrid. I know with full Poly there is very little movement.

I dont usually like playing with fully poly but maybe ill give full PRC a shot @ lower tension.

Recently I have been dropping my down tension, I used to string at 63 and now I am more around 58. With this setup I did notice that the x-one has gotten noticeably more powerful after the tension drops.

Great hybrid though...It has been everything people on these forums talk about. But down side is its a little pricey. :(

I notice that you are using TF Black Code right now. How do you like it?

I've tried this combo a couple of times and it seems to hit nice but the crosses X-1 move, a lot! I have had it strung as high as 60 mains and 63 crosses and the mains don't move but the crosses move all over the place. I've never gone more than one hitting session with this setup because of the movement. Babolat Addiction or Spiral Flex are much better as crosses IMO, they feel nice but don't move at all.

Yeah, I found the X-One crosses move an awful lot as well, but I do love X-One a lot so I just live with it.

its a great combo, it does move a bit. are you using the red x-1, if so try the white as the red seems a bit slicker and thus more prone to movement

I am using the white x-one right now. that interesting that the texture of the red is different from the white. Ive never used the red x-one before

Yeah the red is a bit more slippery, but I'm currently using the red and not having any major problems.

Semi-Pro
X-One - Luxilon

I used to use X=one crosses w/ Luxilon hybrid -

I've recently switched to X-1 Mains and PSGD Crosses all in 16g and found the racket to have much more control and the X-one seems to last about 6-8 hours longer

KBlade 98's

The luxilon X-one's broke too easily and for the price differential I like the new set up - just food for thought...

I have used the white and red X-1 both and agree the white is a bit more tacky than the red but still not nearly enough. I much prefer Addiction or Spriral Flex for crosses. Neither of these moves at all. I can't stand strings that move much at all, if they do I immediately cut them out and don't use that string again, doesn't matter how it plays, movement = no more use for me.

Most poly manufacturers recommend dropping the poly tension by 5-10%.

If you want the X-1BP to last longer, tighten it up also.

If your standard tension is 58, then try 60 on the X-1 and 55 on the Red Code.

I tried X-1 crosses with WC Silverstring 1.20 mains a few months ago.

It felt like mush, unfortunately. I believe that I strung it all too low at 52m/55c. X-1 BP is soft, so tighten it up.

In the next week or so I'm going to be testing out two new hybrids on my Wilson K95 (customised slightly, I've got 5 grams of lead in the hoop and 2.5grams at 3 and 9 o'clock):

MSV Focus Hex (mains) / X one Biophase (cross)
Bluegear (mains) / X one Biophase (cross)

Can anyone recommend the best tension to test these strings out on (I was thinking 56mains/58crosses, but it seems you guys think 58 is quite low for the biophase)?
Cheers

I have biphase strung at 56lbs and feel that's fine, but each to their own. I wouldn't go any higher than 58lbs for me personally.

Just an additional note on BC. For me, BC had a bit more longevity as well. I usually get around 5-8 hours out of a set of full poly before it starts to lose it's optimal use. I am getting about 10-12 hours out of BC before I feel that I have to restring.

Same here, it's definitely moe durable.

Yep X3 for BC lasting longer.

I personally like BC better than MSV Focus Hex but IMO I would say for tensions I'd suggest something more like 59-60 on the mains and for X-1 crosses I'd go about 62-63. That's just me though. I would find 56 and 58 really powerful and mushy.
