-Roger is asked about Paris and whether he watches the matches again

-He was asked about how he feels at Wimbledon.He says he feels good .He's also doing better re: his back problems.It was important to take the week off after RG.etc.
-He was asked if he gets nervous in GS finals.He says he always gets nervous.If he dosent there's something wrong with him and that he should then probably retire(LOL).But that hasnt been the case so far

-He was then asked about his meltdowns early in the year
He says how people thought he couldnt take not being no 1 anymore but that wasnt the case.He was just so frustrated with his game especially against the top guys that he needed to get it out.He People put him down to his personal life since a lot was happening and said that maybe he was nervous.He says he practiced really hard before entering Madrid and believed he could win though he hadnt beaten Rafa in a while and was struggling against some other guys (ala Djokovic and Murray)too.He spoke about how people called him crazy for saying that :lol:He says his game got better just in time when he needed it to be.The rest is history.

-He's then asked about Mirka and why she wasnt in his box for the first time in so many years and whether everything was OK.
He says everything's fine and that he had just spoken to her.She wasnt feeling 100% so it was important to rest a little .She's already feeling better.
She even fell asleep during the match :lol:.He says thats good since she had the confidence :lol:

-He was then told that there are 2 fans per second joining him on FB.
He says fans across the world matter a lot to him.He tries to give back as much as he can to them.He even spoke of RF.com and how the RF.commers all get together for his matches and become friends .

If I were Federer I'd like to win Wimbledon a lot more than hook up with a hot girl, which is quite overrated compared to winning Wimbledon.

ROFL..My thoughts exactly zagor..seriously though,some fans think they can judge anything left and right without having any inside info.
Great interview from Roger.Puts a lot of people back in their place.

I don't remember if this is the same one, but I saw part of an interview with him, Martina, and someone else (maybe Chris Fowler). He said he carries 12 racquets in his bag, a whole bunch of shirts, etc, all in case the match drags on, but usually does not use most of it.

When asked whether Rafa had made him a better player, he dodged the question a lot, finally saying maybe a little. He wanted to make it appear that he was always trying to be a better player, so Rafa did not matter.

Fact is Fed improved his backhand, adding reliable topspin, only when Rafa started pounding on it. His BH went from a defensive slice to a weapon because of Rafa. I don't know why he doesn't have the grace to admit it.

How about he is the highest ranked at the tournament and everyone expects him to win for the most part. So he has a lot to lose. The same can be said for Murray since there is a lot of expectation on him. No one really expects anyone other than Federer or Murray to win it, so none of them have anything to lose.

Everyone in the draw has something to lose. The lower ranked players that do not earn as much as the top ranked players. Everyone in the top 10 that has never won a slam or made a slam final. The expectations in their home countries etc....the list goes on.

What I don't understand is a while ago he said being No. 1 was not his goal and then on the Wimbledon interview he says it is. ???

Because he thought he could never be #1 at that time. Now, with the FO win, and with Rafa injured, he will become #1 if he wins W. So, suddenly it has become his goal now I suppose. He is an expert at twisting everything to his convenience, including back pain and mono and the impact of Rafa on his game.

If he meant that then maybe he would have actually said it or maybe you can read Fed's mind? A lot of Nadal fans seem to posses that unique ability.

And the phrase "he has nothing to lose" is always used when the favourite is playing the underdog in any sport.Don't see what's so controversioal about it when Fed says it.

Thought provoking post as usual Suresh :).However I remember Fed saying both at the end of last year and this year that reclaiming #1 spot was one of his big goals along with breaking Pete's slam record(which I guess is more important to him).

Roger has always maintained that being no 1 has always been a goal for him.
But its not his top priority.Anyway,which Wimbledon interview are you talking about?..didnt see it in his press conference.
Suresh-Roger adjusted his backhand to high loopy shots..he didnt improve it.Big difference.

Naive much? Wake up, ok?

Only a couple of guys have a real chance to win it, one of them is out with injury. Random guys like Kohl, Soderling etc can swing away, go for lines, bash the ball, whatever since they have no expectations to win it and have very few points to defend. If they lose, they can say it is against the best player ever, if they win, its a career benchmark achievement. Thats what Fed has to deal with.

Okay, fair statement. It's always the case, if I play Fed then I will have that attitude too. If I beat him, yeah, a career achievement but if I lose, no big deal. So I will play free tennis and have no pressure. Sure, why not. That is the most dangerous opponent for you to play against, a lose, and nothing-to-lose attitude but with much to gain.

He has admitted it in interviews. It is also common knowledge that he calls up-and-coming lefty players to practice during the training season. It is so obvious that people asking him that question and expecting a graceful answer are either looking for good copy or don't know the first thing about competitive tennis.

Dude, they are playing tennis, not "happy families". Grace is too much to ask for. A lot of us don't have the grace to admit a lot of things. You, for instance, don't have the grace to admit that you start some threads just for the purpose of awakening this board's worst elements and deriving enjoyment from them. :)

he also said in another interview that he saw a rotterdam interview of himself recently...and that was posted on TW recently as well...more evidence that he comes to the board :)

Well yes about not caring about being no. 1 was a few days before Rafa lost at RG. The interview where now no.1 is a goal was with Sue Barker inside the studio not a press conference. In this interview admittedly he did say his intention was not to steal Rafa's show during his break down in AO. But the no. 1 thing changes from week to week. Probably just a lack of stuff to say coz it's always the same old questions.
