Rotary Cuff Problems

This is the brother of luke_1983uk posting as he let me use his account to ask for advice.

I have been suffering from a painful shoulder for a few months but always used to ignore it after tennis and weights as within a few days it would be gone.

I stopped playing tennis about 2 months ago to see if it could ''heal''. I get the pain through overheads and serves.

About 5 weeks ago I got the pain pretty bad and it hurt doing even little things such as driving. I rested it for a week and the pain gradually eased off, I dont have any major problem moving it around etc but just get a slight twinge every now and again.

I decided to book in at a physio anyway to see what the problem is, i had already read up lots on here of people with rotary cuff problems so this is what i imagined would be the case.

The physio diagnosed it as a rotary cuff problem and scheduled me 2 weeks of stage 1 strengthening exercises which i had done. Now i am onto stage 2 using therabands which i have started and scheduled to last fo 2/3 weeks. Only problem is,is that after doing the exercises i get the pain again in the shoulder, not excrutiating but just annoying, should this be happening???

Any advice appreciated

Dan

you must go to a DOCTOR (orthopedic surgeon, preferably to a shoulder specialist, someone working with pro athletes)
he might ask you to have an MRI
you might have a partial tear
otherwise you're walking blind, not knowing what's inside

Even though i can move it around freely? i just get like a slight twinge or ache afterwards.

I hit a few balls with my brother last week and it didnt feel too bad but was only doing underarm serves

Original Racquet =

Babolat Aero Pro Drive
Strings = Hurricane (Mains) VS Touch (Crosses)
55lbs

Now use (Well not atm because im not playing)

Prince O3 Red
Strings = Hurricane (Mains) VS Touch (Crosses)
55lbs

Its only on serve and overheads where i get the problem

Thanks for the links, in your opinion (if you have used the 03 red) which racquet would be similar playability wise to this but be better on the shoulder?

Does this sound any good:

Prince Tour NXG Graphite OS
Weight - 337grams
Headsize - 107''

All the hurricane seems to be linked to elbow injuries? Mine is the shoulder tho

i have the same thing, but my doc said it's an impingement. i have it now for 5 months, it's nothing better, i rested a lot. didnt play, had massage, tens, etc.. next week i go back to the doc. i think something is not normal. how can it lasts that long, doc said it can takes over 6 months, tendons heal very slow...somebody knows that problem??

ps: i play a volkl tour 10 so its not the racket or setup.

So i never had a scan, but have been doing physioteherapy for about 10-12 weeks now and the problem SEEMS to have been rectified. The last week i had the last session of exercises and was told to play a FULL ON game of tennis for 90minutes to see how it felt. Im glad to say i felt NO PAIN from the problem shoulder so i can now start getting back into the game!

Ice is the answer. If you're experiencing pain during physical therapy, you're getting worse and not better. Ice and rest for now.
