no disrespect,

i understand how federer and nadal qualified for the season ending masters cup in shanghai, and roddick just joined the list.....but safin has been qualfied for sometime now.....

is it because he won the AO or the rest of his ranking points are protected because of injury....because he is #8 and only 2 points above gaudio....346 to 344

so whats the full explanation of it.....or else then why hasnt hewitt or agassi qualified for it yet

He qualified as a wildcard entry. One spot is reserved for a guy who wins a slam event and is in the Top 20. So once it was sure he'd remain in the Top 20, he qualified.

He qualified once it was sure nobody else would be eligible for the slam wildcard, i.e. after the the USO.

Not necesarily.
One slam and a year plagued on injuries = only 200 race's points.

Sebastian Grosjean has 200 pts and it's #26... #20 is Robby ginepri, with 244 pts.

Even you won a slam and ranked from 9-20, you're still NOT guranteed a spot in the Master.

How can that happen? One unrealist scenrio is that another slam winner ranked below 8 but higher than you.

It does happen in 2002, Johansson was ranked 15 going in to the Master, Costa was number 8 and Novak was 7. By rules, if Costa is number 7 and a Novak is 8, Costa and Johansson were in. But Costa was 8, therefore TJ can serve only as an alternate

by the way, TJ was a reserve only because Sampras sit out, should Sampras (no. 10 or 12) choose to play, TJ need to stay home

Like last year, Agassi was 8, but Gaudio was 10 and he outtake the spot
