Scoreboard Commentary: How even the most experienced get it wrong

Scoreboard commentary: If a player is ahead on the scoreboard it's either because there is something wrong with the player who is behind, or great game has been played by the player who is ahead. The commentators feel the need to explain the score, so they do one of the above, or both. The pile up can switch back and forth even on a single point, depending on who has got the point.

AO final 2017, 5th set.

Federer just holds at love, Nadal had difficulty holding on his last game. BUT, Nadal is ahead a break of serve.

Darren Cahil jumps ship first: " I know Fed just held at love but the miles per hour is way down"

Now Nadal serves. He wins first two points

P. McEnroe: " While MPH is going down for Federer, the speed and efficiency is going up for Nadal"
Chris Fowler:" It's how he finished Dimitrov..."

While they are saying this, Nadal makes a double fault. No comment. They make a comment about a bird poop on the court.

Fed wins the next point with a beautiful BH winner. No comment, instead they continue on how Nadal digs deep all the time.

Next point. Nadal serves and Fed dips it into the net. P. McEnroe: " That serve was only 103, but Federer didnt move much at all".

Fed wins the next point with BH winner. J.McEnroe: " Roger is moving very well right now"

Federer breaks and then holds. Now pile up on Nadal begins:

McEnroe: " Nadal has struggled on every of his service games"

Good post. These guys are really no better than us in predicting trends or even picking a winner for a match .

At least the on court commentator should be able to figure out match swings early enough
