Interesting. I had a C5/C5 compression and impingement issue and it has been heck to recover from. Caused a lot of issues in my tennis play because how it also effect rotator cuff and nerves, so I am starting down trying some of these things. Chiro firend mentioned the inflatable (he calls it the puff cuff) to start for stretching and releasing the pressure. Hoping I don't have to go to far cuz I have seen some of those $500+ crazy contraptions you strap your head in and it conorts you around.
I have bad neck pains and go to a chiro. He said I can try the balloons too.

Chiros lose me when they measure your leg length..It's so easy to say you're "off" and "out of alignment"..To me it's the same as the copper bracelet trick..i went to many different chiros over the years and got no real results..

Got really annoyed today at the gym after tennis practice.

I did, what I call arm and elbow/shoulder routine and thereafter went to pilates studio to do some core and stretching.

On side planck I found out, that the opereated side (hamstring reconstruction) has lost its strength all together, yet in tennis I feel no deficit anymore.

On the opposite side being sideways and kicking the upper leg forward/horizontally and holding the planck I felt really strong.

On the operated side I felt, that I could not, but lift my hips up in a straight line from heel to shoulder and could not kick at all.

What I figured, is that the nervous system is still disturbed badly and I don’t have the cords to activate the right muscles, but have to rely on second hand feel trying to activate the proper muscles, but get some other muscles activated, cause no feel there.

In Iceland they just lift people to a hook by the bottom of their skull... I hear it is very popular among pupils in comprehensive school too.

Have heard mention that 50s onwards it (tennis) starts to get hard.
That in your 40s you're bulletproof and not appreciate the late sunshine.
Well in my 40s I did take up marathons on the side.
Now in my 50s I sure as heck am not pounding the road anymore, and instead I'm on the constant search for better foot protection the whole time.
Darn... they were right!

Hahaha, just not interesting, running is just not interesting enough. So so not interesting.

In contrast, every tennis match is a story. Most of the tennis we do is repetitive but doesn't seem that way.

But must add - sure marathons at the start you don't know what's going to happen however after a few - you do know what's gonna happen and how it's gonna hurt at the end!

Well, after a few years of injuries and old person issues I am finally getting back to 4.0 tennis. Well, I mean I am back in a 4.0 league, if'n I can play at a 4.0 level still remains to be tested. Play my first match tonight and only goal is to be at least be able to compete well. Been feeling better movement and health wise, so I am kinda excited to get back to it. Also started back with fitness training this last week. I think I need to moderate myself because I don't want to overdo everything, but hard to not wanna push a little bit.

Anyway, cheers all. Let's keep at least TRYING to improve!

Got a decent win after a slow start. Was down 0/4 quick before I started to warm up. Then I ran grabbed a few games back but lost the first 3/6, but had good momentum. Rocked the second 6/1 and won the tie break 10/6. First serve was like 50% maybe set one but started banging more like 70% the second. Still 2 double faults and some very loose ground errors, but felt good with lots of extended points.

Unfortunately guy said no video, so...no video. [emoji17]

Wish I had that neck cuff already!!!

I think, I’d share this...

I am very fond of small breweries and their products along with the supporting view for relatively small businesses.

There is one close by called Fat Lizard Brewing Co, which is not any longer all that little, but still have the spirit of experimental brewing and have a top line of different styles of beer from American wheat to the bitchiest IPAs.

They have a can with a wide opening feature. It is kind of a beer can tin cover and opens up all the way to the outer seam, when taken out the can.

Last weekend I opened two cans and they both bursted all over the place. Then I emailed the company in the spirit of their brand names, Bikini Top - Am. Wheat, Rib Tickler - Rugby Lager...

And couldn’t believe the chief responded very promptly and invited me for a brewery tour to see, if there was some more to it, than poor handling of the cans by me.

Payed them a visit today and got a full tour at the plant seeing how the product is made and canned and all. And he even gave me specimen of their other strong products.

Blew me away. Totally. Two different 6.3 % by vol products, where the alcohol doesn’t taste at all. Extremely good beer. Got sold out right off the first sip of either of them, 51 Roadkill IPA and Fat Lab 08 : Indian Pale Ale.

Yet probably not gonna buy all my beer by the brand, I defenately became a fan.

Sorry guys, cannot comfort any of You marathonists.

Never could run long distances. Don’t have the mental for jogging and even the gym is really not my thing, but I get there, cause I know, I have to do this to be able to do my thing, racket, stick, bat and ball sports.

Taken, someone could run a Marathon, they should play tennis by just returning the ball over the net time after time, run every freaking ball, cause us sprint sports will get really frustrated by the third set.

I feel you man, I am exactly the same way. I'm like a dog, I need something to chase, immediate feedback. I'll play any sport for hours but going out on a run is just torture for me.

One of my hitting buddies is/was a serious marathoner, doing at least one a year for over 25 years. Another hitting buddy is a distance cyclist. Now that didn't sound so bad, at least you get to see pretty countryside! Wrong - he said you just stare at the guy's in front of your's ass for 2-3 hours while peddling like mad. Mountain biking I like, road biking...not so much.

I guess I lack the mental fortitude for endurance sports.

Cycling is something, I could do, and have actually. Used to cycle to work for ages, when young. Not much strain on your joints. In running the impact of your foot/heel will get to your joints.

Chasing sth get you forgetting your limitations.

Yeah if you need to keep up a certain speed, you can't really look up. I did road biking for one summer but it never hooked on. It worked for my buddy but I couldn't get that guy into tennis. He said he's afraid of getting too competitive.

If you like looking around, get a beach cruiser bike. That thing is comfortable and you get loads of exercise with it. It's very meditative once you get going. Noncompetitive biking, solitary workout is for the meditators. Tennis is for the drama loving type.

Mental fortitude, hmmm. I think I do not have that, but an obsession to sports.

Today for instance, about one hour cycling on a watt bike, then pilates and stretching for anohter.

One hour bowling, 224 game in the middle, with rental gear. And tennis practice for one and a half hours in the early evening.

The bowling just got into my way. Other than that I have now 2 workouts a day and one or two day recovery in a week. This rat race is bound to be on for seven more weeks. Then I’ll star build specific muscles for golfing. Basic core strength goes on from start to finish.

Second match tonight and played the top guy this season, who has gone between 4.0 and 4.5 (Currently he is 4.0C) so knew I was in for it. I did lose 5/7 4/6, but every game went to deuce and the key was my UE's and not closing to win games. Serve was really good. Very happy with how I moved and played overall so no harm, no foul. Supposed to play again at 8am, so that will be a test of things. Don't want to overdo it, but also need to push things to see where things are. Can't tell ya how excited I feel about being able to compete again.

Anyway, dinner is a good number of Budlights and Ibuprofen, then off to bed. Cheers all.

Big side noted and point of frustration for me was, I LOVE closing at the net and also throwing in S&V. Well, I did, but I think I went like, 3/20 there on points! Was atrocious! So will be doing a good long volley practice tomorrow.

That is awesome man! Sounds like you are playing solid tennis.

Really hoping to return to competitive play next month but this wrist thing just keeps hanging around and I'm afraid to serve with it. So frustrating.

Well, it is getting more solid. I have the movement better but still just a bit later or such to cause too many UEs. Part if that footwork and spacing I am working on.

And yeah, being able to at least compete instead of lighter hits is...can’t describe how much happier I am. I hope you get back there quick too. I started using a wrist wrap when I play too and found this one doesn’t interfere with my hand and gives good support. I will shoot a pic and see what brand it is.

Also, got that neck stretch thing and been doing that, so will post more on that too. Off for family Sunday time though so cheers all.

I just got my weekly newsletter on my sports diary. 10 excercises last week covering tennis, hockey, strength and flexibility and little cardio.

If I only got my sleeping into order, I would think there would be huge progress. Looking forward ramping the gym part up within a fourthnight.

This week has an addition to my regular tennis as I substitute someone Tuesday night hitting with one of my practice partners and there is also a league away match with singles and a doubles game on Saturday.

Hope to stay healthy.

Can anyone here recommend a decent oversized frame that isn't a Big Bubba ? I am thinking of switching from my Pure Aero to something more forgiving. Right now I'm most interested in the Volkl V1 OS but I'm open to suggestions. 4.5 level both singles and doubles. Thanks.

Head MG Radical OS. Not much in stock form, but excellent platform for customization. You can basically turn it into pretty much anything you like, including extending the length, using Head pallets available from our friends in Europe!

@BounceHitBounceHit thanks that is really interesting. I had one of these that I broke but it was my fault slipped over and sat on it while I was getting out of the car.

ID like to buy another one. Do you have a link to any thread where you've discussed how to customize? When I google for pallets they r all about grip size not extending length. Best strings for a oldtimer?

I think of giving up tennis. At least practice...

Too much money involved and too little results.

Howev, it is in me. Got te yipps. Took nine yeas to reach that point again. 15 in my youth in tennis and now 9 as an adult. F-u-c-king hate this sports.

Neck stretch balloon update. Asap. Thanks.

Well, been trying to do this things for a bit now, and I say trying because the recommendation is 3 times per day for about 20 minutes each and I have only done one or MAYBE two a day, but not even every day. But here are some inital thoughts:

This is the thing I bought from Amazon for my neck.
Only ran about $20 so thought it would be worth trying.

Built well and easy to use. Essentially it inflates to (supposedly) help stretch the neck and decompress the cervial vertebrea. When I wear it I do feel some relief from the numbness down the arm, so it does do something, but nothing premananet yet. it is a bit uncomfortable to wear/do, but nothing ridiculously bad. I will continue to use it and hopefully get more regimented about using it to see if I can get more relief.

So, would I recommend it? Ummmm...I won't claim any mirccles at this point, but for $20 it is worth trying I think.

There are so many products out there that look like total bs. That neck blow up rack :p didn't strike me as one of them to me. It struck me as "clever" and "logically I could see how that might work". I don't have neck issues, but am totally curious if that works for you.

I am a skeptic, but it is starting to get frustrating so it is more about me wanting to beleive it will work than actually thinking this is some pancea. Probably why I am ony half-ass doing it, but I will give it a stronger go here in the next few weeks.

Have another strong match tonight so will need it the next few days for a hit Thursday.

Inflate it more than you are currently. Really stretch the neck. I'm going to get one.

A lot times its structural. So you need chiropractic manipulation of the neck.

Few days until 61 ... and you guys make me look like I'm frickin 20.

No braces ... two foam rollers ... one stick roller ... one green flexbar ... yoga ball ... strap hooked to end of bed --- wait for it --- nordic curls :p ... enough compression sleeves to not see skin below hips (don't wear anymore) ... two lacrosse balls I haven't used for anything yet ... and a tennis ball in a thorlo sock.

But no frickin old man braces... unless you count that TE forearm strap that never helped. Until 57 ... none of that cr@p.
