A lot times its structural. So you need chiropractic manipulation of the neck.

Be careful with that chiropractors can make your neck worse. I went to one years back because of neck pain and he ended up giving me a bulged disc in my neck. Like my doctor told me chiropractors can help some with back problems but never let them work on your neck.

Match updates...now 1/3 in 4.0 play. Still frustrated and optimistic at the same time. Losing on UE's is killing me, but also something I can clean up and that I completely control. Was serving big and even threw in S&V successfully. Score was 2/6, 4/6. I was up in the second set and blew that too. Again, frustrating but all things that will come back with time.

The good news was the guy was all for shooting video! Of course, I F!@#$d it up and somehow slid the mode from VIDEO to TIMELAPSE, so nothing but 10 minute clips sped up to 30 second clips! THAT pisses me off more than losing again! Was really looking forward to reviewing my play and seeing how I am making those UE since I feel like I am right there. Going back from the Apple Video app to the other one I was using as you cannot screw up modes in any way like that.

Yeah, here is just one quick...like really quick clip of the time lapse. Can't make out crap. And this is actually slowed down to 25% speed. UGhhh...

Shooting Time Lapse can be fun, and it sure makes for a nice small video file size too.

Wish my action cam could shoot at 1/2 a second though, 1 second is the least mine will do.

Here's my TL video. Hopefully I won't regret posting it.

Just turned 55, and I may be the greatest alive, IF I do say so myself. (and I do)

Okay good luck with that. Obviously it doesn’t work very well if you’ve been going once a week for 10 years. But hey that’s how chiropractors make their money.

Don't be a hater. Professional athletes go to chiro even more. It's preventative as well as therapeutic.

Inflate it more than you are currently. Really stretch the neck. I'm going to get one.

ha ha looks like a Charlie Chaplin movie!

Is your league format 2/3 (singles, dubs)?

Did you volunteer for singles or were you asked/recruited for it? Are you playing 1 or 2?

One reason I like our local league over USTA is the dubs is played after singles so you can play both. You also are matched up by rating so no stacking. I remember playing USTA and playing #1 singles against a guy they brought up from their 3.5 team. Total joke.

This is Flex 4.0, all singles and none of it counts towards ratings, which I am really not too worried about anyway. For me I am just starting to get a feel for the court and movement again, so happy to be back in matches in any capacity. I had my 4.0 team captain ask if I would jump back in for singles, but honestly I am in a gray area between a top 3.5 and a low 4.0 at the moment. Again, I can see light to get back to a decent 50/50 match player, but I am not there and I certainly don't need to drag down the team average. I played the 3.5 Flex last season just to get a feel for playing and only a few match were challenging. Looked like this:

All the UE are just clipping tape or just outside the lines, so need to tighten up things and I will be happy.

I said that they can help especially with lower back. But there are many cases of them causing paralysis through their neck manipulations. You may be surprised if you researched this subject. I went to chiropractors some years back and usually for back problems but sometimes I had them work on my neck with no problems. But the last time the neck work bulged a disk in my neck.

I didn’t notice anything the day he worked on me but the next day I went to bench press and I had no strength in my right arm, also had tingling in my fingers. I had no idea what was going on so I finally went to my doctor and told him my symptoms and never mentioned that I had been to a chiropractor.

His immediately asked me if I had been to a chiropractor lately and I said yes he then asked if he worked on my neck which I also answered yes. So he gave me some physical tests to see if I needed a MRI and said that I have a bulged disc in my neck and he didn’t think I needed a MRI unless it gets worse.

It took a long time but it eventually went away. I asked him how did he guess that a chiropractor did this because I never mentioned to him that I went to chiropractors. He said that this happens a lot from them working on necks of patients and said that sometimes he gets one a month. So I trust a doctor that went to years of schooling and training compared to a chiropractor that has minimal training.

I would trust someone with experience in their field. Doctors are responsible for tons of deaths. Wrong medication. Improper diagnosis. Sloppy care.

You are old enough to see medical doctors are just as likely to error as anyone else.

There are good and bad in every field and yes doctors definitely make errors but their training is light years ahead of chiropractors. Like I said you can research the strokes that are caused my chiropractor neck manipulation if you want to know why I advise against them working on anyone’s neck.

Research deaths caused by medical doctors. I'm pretty sure medical doctors kill more people by accident indirectly or directly. As a general percentage if compare to chiropractors.

I'm all for western medicine and all that but I don't trust doctors any more than anyone else.

tlm

Doctors treat a wide variety of illnesses so comparing them having more deaths is very misleading and not a good comparison in any way. With neck manipulation by chiropractors they have you hang your head off the end of a table and they grab your head and chin then they give your head a quick snap while telling you to relax your neck muscles.

If you think this is safe and a proper way to treat neck pain then go for it. You can get away with this treatment which I did myself, but it only takes that one time for you to have serious consequences.

...he ended up giving me a bulged disc in my neck.

That is what I am trying to aleviate. I ahve gone to a local sports med chiro and he did some inital adjustments and work, and I was doing a few 15 minute sessions a few times a week to help. It was really good, but I hate spending money so I treid to take on some of the rehab myself. And all the research I ahve done suggest there really isn't a full cure, but once the buldge occurs you can only manage it for the rest of your life. I dunno. The numbness and pain comes and goes depending on how much I use/over-use my shoulders - so I do much more hitting sessions than matches or practive with serving anymore.

Anyway, I am not completely for chiro, but also know there is a benefit.

I feel your pain. A bulged disc in the neck really sucks and there is no easy cure. If you have a full blown ruptured disc and choose to have surgery they have to go through your throat to work on it. Wow that sounds like a lot of fun.

I was like you I was able to manage it but it really sucked when it flared up, I couldn’t lift weights or do certain movements because it would irritate it. I think massage and heat treatments can help but it takes a long time to get rid of and some have to live with it forever.

My doctor told me that over time the disc can be pushed back in by the muscles. Or the disc can actually shrink up some and stop putting pressure on the nerve. I was younger when I had my problem and I wasn’t playing tennis but it took a long time to go away.

If I over do it serving or irritate my neck some I can still feel a little pain but it’s not bad and goes away in a few days, and it’s nothing like it was when I first experienced this injury.

Really what’s false? These are my real experiences so not sure where the false info is. Hey Rog if you don’t mind taking that chance of having your neck manipulated by chiropractors then that’s fine go for it. I’m just suggesting to others the risks that are involved which is not false info.

I use one to my experience liable Naprapath, with some kind of doctorate degree in his expertese. Really do not know, what it consists of, but I have had relief from his appointments as well as from an OMT (Ortopedic Manual Theraphy) Physio therapist.

My thorax spine and neck have suffered from my occupation as a pilot and get constant severe pains in my spine restricting my respiratory. Basic stretching and pilates or yoga doesn’t allways help, but are an aid, when the dislocation of facet joints is behind the corner. When it gets bad, it is really bad.

Basic culprit to thorax trouble lies in my lumbar spine, where one vertebra broke in the early years of flying. Some pain in there at the time, I have to say. Later have luckily gotten out the pain spiral, but there are consequences.

With this in my exosceleton I really hate, when people say me being lucky to be in good health and retired early. Everything is relative, but compared to normal people, I mean not mil pilots, they get away either without or with very little excercising, but I cannot give up. If I do, I woun’t be able to walk within half a year.

Wow, what A night i had at the practice!

Maybe I will not give up anyway. It is just so annoying to hit a wall, when you practice a lot and find yourself having a yipp hitting most of your shots eyes closed.

I haven’t yet figured it out thoroughly, why, but at sertain level in any skills sport I tend to find the same platou.

My former coach told me having all the shots to go deep in the draws, yet I cannot hit decent shots in a match. Analyzing, what had happened, I allways end up with the same result. I did not see the ball all night. And it feels like i am hitting all my shots eyes closed.

We have our ITF women's $25k starting this weekend so had the oportunity to meet and watch quite a few players already this weekend. Funny story...wanted to get ahit in this morning and unfortunately only the top court right out of the club doors was available, so we played there. Of course, as all the girls are getting in and getting ready to hit they end up sitting right there at the court with their coaches. We had another guy jump in with us so we were doing 2 on 1 drop feed points. I am usually not too prideful, but dang if I wasn't going to give it a a full go with everyone sitting there. So played out a few points that ended up being fairly fast paced and challenging. Like..completely out of breath challenging. Male pride is such a funny things sometimes.

So we finish up and we go sit up with the coaches and a few players, and they are super nice with compliments about the practice and points they saw...until one girl says, "Nice yadda, yadda, yadda...and how old are you?". I was just like...dangit...can't it just be decent play because it was decent and not "Nice play for an older guy". But it was very kind of them to even comment and was great to talk tennis with them.

After watching them again though, it makes me laugh more when rec players think they can keep up with any of these girls, even just in practice. Such athleticism, timing, and consistency. Love seeing excellence like that. Gonna take a few days off this week to catch up with a few girls I've known who are there and watch as much as I can. Will try to shoot some video. Wildcard starts tomorrow with 24 girls. I have one friend who is a local coach and is on the alternate list so hoping she will get in. Unfortunately we also have rain in the forecast this week so hopefully things don't get too messed up.

Isn’t that wonderfull, even with your mates you level up when ”real” players show up behind the fences.

What I’ve noticed, when you rally or play hand-feed tie-breaks with better players or your coach playing down the rythm of the rallies and proper pace makes my timing and rythm better too.

I drove 300 k to practice under a friend, one of my previous coaches, top class guy, who spent few years Down Under, but is now back in my old home town. It was great te meet in person after a long time. It has been like five years or so since my last lesson with him. Really solid take on, what to do and how to improve. Shot some 50 minutes footage, which will be analyzed later.

Glimbsed thru it fast and saw some of the advice going into practice on multiple shots. And broke a string first time since three years.

Spending the night at one of my other friend’s.

Wrist/hand is recovering, need to start hitting some serves since league starts in a couple weeks and I haven't served in months!

Filmed a bit of hitting last week, tried some overheads which felt ok. I'm wearing two different braces (one of which is in the way of the racket handle which feels really weird!). My rhs should increase once I take off all the braces/tape lol.

On the bright side my movement is really coming around (as you will see) - not bad for an old geezer with two hip surgeries! Pretty stoked about that!

My friend (far court) has had BOTH hips replaced so I *try* not to run him too much ;) On the other hand I encourage him to run my sorry ass!

Court surface is beyond done but it's a two minute bike ride from my house so I often hit there. Sorry for lousy editing ha

Must have been just uploaded, cause I got the same notification of the vid not being available, or the setting was private.

Nice hitting guys!

I felt really good on my ballstriking today early morning too, yet not overall that fresh feeling. Gave a lesson to my cousin on serve and forehand and hit for two hours with him. Played hand feed tie-braker and my focus was on keeping the ball live and reachable for him to practice his forehand mostly. Was really stunned by my consistency at that hour. Looking good going into the 50+ Indoors Nationals on thursday nite.

DANG, this is kind of hard to take, yet very humbling. Got feedback on morning lesson. The trainee sent me a message thanking for the lesson and told he had had some kind of enlightment on serve motion. And continued telling, that he'd been thinking about the serve the rest of the day.

I had told him, let's build a solid second serve for you, a slice with decent pace to go with the spin. After the partial drills we made, he started having a decent racket drop with the required amount of supination and edge up movement straightening his hand finessing the impact by proper ISR at his best. Now it is just more and more reps and some minor tweeks on the toss to get it consistent.

Beforehand I was quite certain, it would not take long to get the basics into places, cause he's been playing ice hockey in his youth with to-be NHL players in the same teams and won some championships in bandy too. Good background for a student of any sport.

Really rewarding to work with people with sports background, while the non athletics wear you out sometimes.

IMO the progressions/expectations for non-athletics need to chagne for the coach and the student.

No, not full replacements (yet). Femoro-acetabular impingement, same thing Murray has, Hewitt and Kuerten had, etc. except I had it in both hips (along with a badly torn labrum in the right hip joint). The surgery reshapes the ball of the femur and repairs the labrum. It's not that invasive of a surgery but it's a long recovery. Baseball players have come back from it but pro tennis is just too movement dependent. Fortunately I'm not a pro so the surgery was a huge success!

What were your symptoms? And what do you feel caused it (not open stance?)?

norcal

Legend
My main symptoms were massive, unrelenting, debilitating groin pain which started when I was in my early 30s, misdiagnosed over the years as a groin injury until an ortho looked at my MRI a couple years ago and knew exactly what the problem was and he told me he could fix it! That was one of the happiest days of my life because I couldn't even run around in the park with my dog and my kid

The cause according to my ortho is a genetic defect in which your femur bone and socket do not fit together properly and it just gets worse and worse with physical activity creating massive imbalance and strain on the groin. If I weren't so active he said I would probably have never noticed it

Anyway I made a thread about it in the health section you can just search my name and read all about it.

@norcal’s epicrisis proves it. Nobody is really healthy. Especially those who excercise. They haven’t been examined thoroughly enough, if they claim being healthy. Still, you can be well. Really unfortunate to have been misdiagnosed.

I’ve got all kinds of injuries, but also a heart condition. There is a ripcurl inside the other side, but only few millilitres per beat, and considered ”healthy”. The valve woun’t seal fully, but it is so minor deficit, that it does not show in any condition tests, not even th EEG.

The reverse flow was discovered in a mandatory check for pilots by IR-scan.
