I said before that Shapvalov is going to be the Luke Skywalker of tennis. Once he gets it all together, and he is going to, he is going to be the one.

I have always thought this

But when he opens his mouth and starts talking, I'm not sure. He sounds like Ivanka Trump when he talks. "Me, I, durrrrrrrrr"

His ball striking abilities are amazing. This chap has a fantastic game. It's almost like he's got too many weapons. Once his game starts to fully click he'll be unstoppable. I still believe he's the most talented young player of his generation and will be the most successful.

Man we talk about this every year, how a young gun is coming cuz they fluked a win over a Big 3 player. This time he didn’t even beat Djokovic yet we’re still on about how amazing he’s going to be this and that.

Give it a rest yeah? It didn’t work with Zverev or Tsitsipas and honestly we don’t know if it will work with Shapo. Just let them work at their own pace. Wawrinka peaked in his 30s, it’s never too late. Not even for Coric or Kyrgios.
Good time to bump this

It's almost like he's got too many weapons

But unfortunately, to this point, he does not have the most important weapon for tennis .... MENTAL PROWESS !!!

And sadly, that is something that is usually innate in the greatest tennis players. It is not easy to develop.

Today's match was a classic example. He was arguing with the Umpire about a particular Rule of Tennis ... "The Abuse of Racquets or Equipment" ... and he had no clue. He was totally wrong in everything he was saying. A total mental meltdown.

He will be left behind by guys like Felix, Demon, Tsitispas, Hurcakz, and Jannik Sinner, sooner rather than later.

from BBC today...

The Canadian 13th seed was warned by the umpire for throwing his racquet down and responded: "I'm not breaking any rules.

"It's my racquet I can do whatever the hell I want with it. What are you talking about, I didn't break it.

(what a kn*b comment...):cautious:

Felix has a better ROS and better movement and defense, meanwhile can attack from both wings. His problems are mental, otherwise he has a top 10-15 game already.
Exactly for FAA. !
However, Shapavalov's ROS is horrendous whenever I see him play.
Why does he have to go all out on ROS?
Why does he have to jump on FH volleys?
I have always thought he is over-rated. Don't give me the "oh he's still young" excuse for a supposedly future slam winner.
Fed, Djokovic, Nadal did outstanding at a young age in slams. This guy has not made a 3R and when he loses it's not even against an ATG.
Will he peak late like Stan? idk but if you're going to be great you can't lose in 1st or 2ndRds. I like Fujovics game but c'mon that guy has no weapons. He like a Daniel Evans or the other Hungarian guy. Solid players who are not over-aggressive and have low margin for error, unlike Denis.
It appears Shapovalov has mental problems in slams when its close. Perhaps, FAA will have a better slam records than Denis.
Lots of top 50 players do well in Masters but that doesn't always translate to well in slams.
I think he has the weapons and should get to at least the 4thRd but he needs to tone down his over aggressive play in certain situations.

Shapo was merely practicing for when tennis courts twice the size are introduced to the sport. He'll have the last laugh when a laughable cavalcade of errors today becomes a series of jaw-dropping winners tomorrow. Word my marks.

Imho, needs to try a racquet with a bigger hoop size. Go to a Yonex 98 if he has to stay with the brand. Otherwise consider moving back to Wilson, perhaps a Blade.
His current game requires consistent clean hitting to be successful. Not a lot of margin for error using a 95. A bigger hoop will help him in that department.

I suspect he and his team are well aware of this. But the Yonex $$$ are taking priority at the moment. Not for much longer though if he keeps performing the way he currently is.

VCore, EZONE 98 or DR98. A 95 is pretty small. He needs to reduce from his schedule any 250 tournaments and focus more on improved results at majors.
A jumping 1HBH ROS!!!. That's all show and slam results are worse than the lazy aussies - Tomic and Kyrios.
Someone help the kid out or make him listen.

I liked what I saw from Shapo at the ATP Cup and I think the loss against Fucsovic was just bad luck. Fucsovic is a tough first round opponent and is the kind of player who can beat anyone outside of the Big when he is having a good day. BUT, yeah, I didn't like Shapo's body language when he was down. You could see he was not fully focused and seemed outwardly frustrated about being bounced early from the tournament.
