Sliding on hard courts

Watching Nadal and Djokovic slide on HC I'm surprised that they haven't twisted their knee or broken their foot. It hurts in every part of my body when I see it. The foot can easily get ''stuck'' in the slide and boom, good bye..

Edit: other players to this to of course, not just rafa and nole

clijsters was great at it. is fed doing it?

I would imagine that european players who basically all grow up playing on clay do it more than american players who grow up on hardcourt.

Yep it's a fad. It will end when someone famous has a career ending injury due to that. But until then, let the slides ring.

clijsters was amazing at it but the point im trying to make is that they doesn't seem to be careful enough. They slide like its clay. Someday it will all go wrong

a lot of misinformation and bad assumptions by people here about hardcourt sliding. it's not as dangerous as you guys make it out to be. as long as you keep your body low and feet spread out.. there's little risk. you see a lot of hardcourt sliding these days and almost no acute ankle sprains resulting directly from a slide. though, there may be some merit to long term effects of joint damage from sliding, but as far as i'm aware, it's all speculation. unless someone can point me to a health study on the effects of hardcourt sliding?

It always leaves a weird sound, vibrating through the stadium when they go for those shots.. it's almost like a squeak.

Novak seems to have shoes that have less grip than others so he can slide more

I wonder what the stress on joints is for sliding with lower grip shoes vs not doing so. A bit like breaking a drive shaft on a car with super grippy tyres vs ones that spin easily.

I agree. He slides easily and often has grip problems in non-sliding situations. Adidas likely has a firmer (less grippy) compound in his HC soles.
