what does it mean when they said some pros can slide on all surfaces including hard court? isnt this virtually impossible? i mean its hard courts...its soo sticky!! how in the would can u slide on those surfaces?

clijsters and jankovic does it but the sound hurts my ears but hav no idea how can they do it. or do they just spread their legs out really wide and that counts as slidin.

Those freaks are basically bending the laws of physics to their will to put their physical superiority on display. I watched a high school slugger doing a little of that last spring and I was just waiting to see one of his ankles take a vicious roll. He'd get really low and put his outside foot waaaaay out wide so that their wasn't too much weight on it. The pros sometimes do hardcourt slides like their on clay though... makes me cringe, too!

I usually slide on my backhand side, but I'm sure it's an uber noob version, I just manage to transfer all weight into my shot as I hit, and I kind of... "glide" over.
A lot of the professionals do it by putting their feet in that awkward position, having the soles pointing outwards and the inside of the ankles towards the ground.

I agree especially when I'm trying to catch up to a drop shot

Last time I tried to retrieve a drop shot while sliding (on hard courts), I have NO idea why I would even attempt to slide..

I fell flat on my face.

I prefer to just take a large stride and lunge toward the ball, and then pivot on my landing foot to stop from crashing into the net.

i slide to reach dropshots and dont touch the net. i also slide on the baseline when i have to return a far ball with a slice.

but ur shoes stick and makes a squeaky noise. how do u slide anyway. The best i can do on hard court instead of slide is the jelena split lol.

maybe my shoes dont have much friction so they allow me to slide. it is amazing how people are very surprised everytime i return a very difficult dropshot by sliding. it looks cool :)

Sliding on hardcourts isn't that hard, it's usually for those that are more athletically inclined and I don't find it to be a big advantage on hardcourts. It's definitely more valuable on clay. I've been doing it for 3 years on hardcourts and have yet to roll an ankle or fall, once you learn how to do it the fear factor it gone.

I slide a lot on hard courts when i have to reach a dropshot or when i try to reach a far ball. People always ask me how i do that or that i will injured myself. ...wich has never happenned..But for me it has come naturally. I run really fast so i have to break fast sometimes, so i slide. It's killing my shoe thought.

I slide a lot on hard courts because i used to play on astro and it enables me to hit shots i would normally have to hit on full extension slightly easier.:)

I slide all the time on hardcourts and have NEVER rolled an ankle from doing so. Don't get me wrong, I've rolled my ankle plenty of times, just never from sliding.
