So what happened?

I was on a trip so I couldn't watch the match and I don't feel like reading troll threads that are bashing Murray to find out what happened.

I saw Murray won the first set on my phone and then when I got home and saw the score it seems Nadal blasted him off the court. I was hoping that Murray would win the whole thing but it seems his time hasn't come yet.

Would anyone care to give an objective summary to the match? How good was Rafa? What did Andy do wrong?

Murray had an easy forehand to make it 15/40 on Nadal's serve early in 2nd set. Missed it. From then on Murray totally collapsed. Objective and fair.

Breaker

Legend
1st set: Both guys holding easily, Murray running Nadal side to side using his forehand well - breaks at 6-5 with aggressive play and a few missed 1st serves from Nadal.

2nd set: More of the same until 1-2, 15-30 on Nadal's serve. Murray gets relatively short forehand to put away and hits it long, loses concentration and Nadal gains confidence leading to 6 games in a row for Nadal.

3rd set: Nadal plays well, Murray sprays errors everywhere and loses his forehand.

4th: Nadal breaks early off of a couple of errors and double faults from Murray then holds pretty easily the rest of the way save for one game where Muzza had break points.

Yeah, I felt the match was heading back towards the equality of the 1st set during the 4th but the damage had already been done. Murray's game simply dropped way too low in sets 2 & 3 while Nadal just maintained the same level through the whole match.

an objective summary ?... you're lucky i'm here, man ! :)

the nadal didn't suck more than usual, the foot miracle was still working.
murray had it in the bag until he missed an easy shot at 75 21, 15-30 on the serve of the nadal... and then he vanished...... just some gaseous particles of murray remained on the grass...

I'm looking at the stat's and Rafa had 37/7 Winners and UEs, Murray had 42/39
it seems Murray was trying to be aggressive but had too many errors, also a 58 first serve percentage can't be enough against Nadal

feels like I'm looking at stat's for a Fedal match

Scoreline, too

Nadal did boost his level in sets 2-4. Murray started to catch up about a third of the way into the 4th, but Nadal kept the hammer down and didn't let up. Murray had a couple BP opportunities to get back on serve in the 4th, but Nadal just played too well.

It was like a less extreme version of the Federer vs Davydenko match at last years Australian Open. Davydenko misses an easy forehand for a double break in the 2nd set, Murray misses an easy forehand to bring up a break point.

After that both guys crumbled and lost several games in a row (Murray lost 7 in a row, Davydenko lost about a dozen or more in a row), until the 4th sets where Davydenko breaks Federer's serve when he tries to serve out the match, while Murray simply manages to hold his own serve a few times, and save a few matchpoints on his serve at 5-3.

Nadal's level of play went up in the 2nd set and carried on that way until the 4th when Murray started to build the pressure again.

But in truth, Nadal didn't need to do an awful lot in sets 3 and 4.

Still, 2 four set semi finals, better than last years blowouts certainly. AND we have a more exciting final to look forward to.

...and after that AO match, Davydenko's ranking plummeted and hasn't recovered since. I think we shall see a similar thing with Murray. Hopefully his confidence is completely shattered forever. Out of the top 30 for good by 2012.
