It has been pretty obvious for some time that Blake and Blokhina are no longer performing well as a doubles team . I really don’t understand why Yu has not been given chances at least in doubles. They can’t keep on losing doubles points against strong teams. That is their achilles heel which could cut short NCAA title aspirațions.

This match was a battle and good they squeezed it out . Convincing wins for Blake and Ma 6-0 6-2 and 6-4 6-0 at 1 and 2 . Solid From Hui 6-4.6-3 at 5 and fighting From Yep 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 .at 3. Xu unfinished at 6, up 3-1 in 3rd. Disappointing for Blokhina going down again to Cayetano 6-3 6-3 at 4.

So another conference final tomorrow against Cal rather than top seeda UCLA ! At least that will be on live stream ….

re: Cayetano: Not sure why everyone is surprised at this - she's a great player. Remember at one point she was playing No. 1 for USC (it may have been 2 or 3 years ago). While I expect Ma to win every match at the 2 spot, and I expect Cayetano to win every match at the 4 spot.

she owns Blokhina ,, its matchup thing,, she probably like playing against that style, like most balls just right in her power Zone and whatever

And Stanford cruises to the PAC 12 tournament winner trophy. Wins doubles point this time and then the 3 big guns at the top of the line up get convincing wins.Blake 6-0 6-1 over #42 Villa Moeller , then Yep 6-0 6-2 over #82 Alsola and Ma 6-4 6-1 over #52 Ivanov . Congrats to them all and good prep for NCAA’s !

Wow, that is some serious firepower up top. Don’t forget Yepifanova playing in the 3 spot when she could be a legit #1 for many teams.

This is too easy. now only thing to do is not let up when NCAA comes around. but with Lele leading the team, you know they will be ready

John Parsons mentioned on the CR show that Yu doesn’t appear in the submitted lineup for the NCAAs. Wonder why. Is she injured? It’s such a luxury to have her as the #7. She was the 2022 G18 hard courts champ in San Diego.

The other possibility is would she be seeking a transfer if Glozman who joins in the Fall leapfrogs her. Only Blake among the starters will be gone. Which could mean Yu would be on the outside looking in for her sophomore season as well. For a player of her pedigree that could be a bit much.

I was listening to the CR show too...and was wondering the same thing about Yu. Wonder if she is going to enter the Portal. I hope not .. I like her fiery spirit!

NObody goes anywhere or any transfer portal for that matter once you are in at stanford. It just does not happen. Do you know why ? These girls know they are not going to be a WTA pro, and this is it, tennis is just 2ndary thing to them. Getting the degree at Stanford is 1st priority to them and tennis always 2nd. Only time this is different is for top players like Connie Ma who might have a small chance at the WTA. :)

Hope you are correct in Yu’s case. But she played a number of pro tournaments before coming to Stanford. In any case her wanting to seek a transfer (if true) shouldn’t prevent her from competing for the Card this postseason. So could be she’s injured.

It wouldn‘t surprise me if she is not happy with her lack of matches. After all she came to Stanford on the back of winning the 18s Hard courts and you don’t win that without being a top player. She was also Number 1 on tennis recruiting for a long time I think. . 6-0 in dual matches and 13-2 overall when she haș played. At least she could have played doubles. Too good to sit on the sidelines.

Where do I find the submitted line ups ?

And here are the women selected for the individual NCAA championships.

Unsurprisingly Ma, Blake and Yepifanova all take part
Blake had an excellent tournament last year even defeating Anastasia Komar. Hoping for an encore from her in her farewell year.

Season end rankings:
Stanford 2
Ma 7 , Blake 25, Yepifanova 29
Ma/ Yepifanova 10

Great by the top 3 but does show the reliance the team places on them.

It's funny, I thought that it would be the back courts that would be rock solid for the team this year. Blok, Hui and Xu, though playing well, have seemed to be up and down this year. Hopefully everyone pulls it together in Oklahoma.

Let me re-phrase that. The backcourts have played well, but they haven't been dominate the way I thought they would be.

Agreed with all that depth, you'd think they'd not give up a match at the #5 and #6 slot.

4-0 win over LSU in a match interrupted several times by rain.It was tighter than the score suggests. Won Doubles point with wins for Blake/ Blokhina and Hui/ Xu.

Ma again did not play singles . She will be needed for NC State. Straight set wins for Blake, Yepifanova and Hui. Blokhina lost first set , ahead in second. Xu won first set, lost second, Houghton lost first set, down in second, Xu won first, lost second. This was a match where Eleana Yu would have been a good selection.

Anyway, R16 challenge against NC State coming up ….

Here's my take:
Ma should reach that easily - I would imagine she will get 2 in Ojai and 2 at the opening rounds of the NCAA Championships that Stanford will probably host.
Blake hopefully will get 3 wins before going to Oklahoma, putting her at 97. In Oklahoma, since she's in the 1 spot, she might not get losses, but she might not get wins either, since they won't be playing the entire match out. 11 wins for Yep, or for anyone for that matter, is a tall ask before the season ends. However, I hope they all do it!
Update on this. Blake and Ma now both on 98 and Yep on 92…

India is senior, this is probably the last match she will play. You is freshman, she will have plenty of chances , this was probably already explained to her by the coach lele

Not that it bothers her but Ma could have notched up her century of wins this weekend.

Couple of thoughts on yesterday's match:

While I didn't see the entire match, the Yep match was pretty contentious, and the head umpire had to intervene. Funny how the matches this season were pretty drama free, up until yesterday.

Missing during warm ups: Elena Yu. I'm not sure what is going on with that situation, but later, she was in the stands, in street clothes, cheering on the team.

At the No. 1 spot, Blake and her opponent were having fierce rallies which was really fun to watch.

Even though she lost the first set, Blokina seemed to be playing well. If she could be just a bit more consistent, she would never lose!

I'm going to miss watching Houghton play. Probably the smoothest player outside of Ma on the team.

My guess is that we'll see NC State this Friday...Go Card!
