Sooo....I happened to be down at Indian Wells today. I was looking at the schedule and guess who's name I see? Playing in the Fila International Junior Championships at the same venue as the BNP Paribas Open...none other than class of 2028 recruit Valerie Glozman. The Future of Card Tennis!

Do you think she’ll crack the lineup next year as a freshman? Or will Yu play instead? Only Blake of the current starters will be out of eligibility.

Card keep rolling with a 4-1 victory over #9 USC. Ma almost double bagled Charney who's a very good player. They should steamroll the rest of the schedule through the Pac12 tournament. Then the fun begins.

Definitely a bad day at the office for the Card. Started with the doubles where it came down to an 8-6 tiebreak loss for Blake/Blokhina after a win for Hu/ Xu and a loss for Yepifanova/ Ma. Doubles haș been an issue for them over past few years . Maybe a few sessions with alumni Mike and Bob would help !

Very bad day in singles for Blake and Blokhina at 1 and 4. Even allowing for Blake playing the reigning NCAA individual winner she should have done better. Last year she lost to her in 3 tight sets but very one sided yesterday. Bad weekend for Blokhina with 2 singles losses. Good wins for Yep in 3 sets, Hui and Xu in 2.

i didn’t see Ma with any obvious injury until she cut her foot at 2-2 in the 3rd set tie-break. Nothing wrong with her movement either. She had 2 match points serving at 5-4 in the 3rd. Ultimately Hance had that little bit extra power which proved decisive. Ma fought until the end though.

Is there a case for reverting to last year’s order of Yep, Ma and Blake at 1-2-3 ? Possibly , though Blake haș held her own at 1 until yesterday , Ma had been unbeatable at 2 and Yep solid at 3. Against most teams you would expect wins for Ma, Yep and Hui at 2, 3 and 5 and you’d expect at least another point from 1 of Blake, Blokhina and Xu.

But the doubles needs fixing !

Tough challenge this week against Pepperdine. Card need to be solid to stay in a top 8 ranking which could be crucial in May.

Blokhina’s bad weekend is hard to fathom. She had been playing well until then. Sudden loss of form and it’s cost her a singles ranking. Also surprising to see her and Blake not ranked in doubles.

Nice win for the Card today - especially w/ C Ma providing the clincher.

re: Blokina's loss to USC - I wasn't totally surprised by that result. TBH - not sure why Cayetano is playing so low at 4.

Yes, excellent 4-0 win over #3 Pepperdine

Doubles point clinched by Blake/ Houghton after a win for Hui/ Xu and loss for Ma/ Yep. Good to see …

Singles wins for Yui ( in for Blokhina )6-3 6-2 at 6, Yepifanova a very good 6-3 6-3 over #8 Broadus at 2 and Ma 6-2 7-5 over ##52 Tjen at 3

Unfinished Blake 6-4 3-6 1-0 v #10 Zaar at 1, Xu 1-6 5-3 v Redelijk at 5 and Hui 5-7 3-4 v Campana at 4

Shame they didn’t agree to play it out but a good win in any event.

All down to Yep or Blokhina to win their 3rd sets . Disappointing losses for Hui and Xu In straights. Convincing win for Ma and Blake also in 2 sets despite missing multiple match points,…

And Yepifanova and Blokhina both win in 3 sets giving a 5-2 Card winning scoreline.

I was a little worried going into the match and the Card pulled through with a pretty convincing win. Let's face it, if they played it out, the final score would have been 5-2. Ma back at No. 2 and destroyed her opponent, avenging her loss last Fall in the ITA Northwest Regional Finals.

Connie Ma, is the Pac 12 player of the week, more like player of the century. Her racket speed is so high, it makes a sonic boom

On a side note there are 3 Card players very close to 100 singles wins. Ma is on 96, Blake 94 and Yep 89. Would be great if all 3 get there by the time the individual NCAA event is over

Here's my take:
Ma should reach that easily - I would imagine she will get 2 in Ojai and 2 at the opening rounds of the NCAA Championships that Stanford will probably host.
Blake hopefully will get 3 wins before going to Oklahoma, putting her at 97. In Oklahoma, since she's in the 1 spot, she might not get losses, but she might not get wins either, since they won't be playing the entire match out. 11 wins for Yep, or for anyone for that matter, is a tall ask before the season ends. However, I hope they all do it!

There is also the individual NCAA event where wins will count in the calculation!
