Our 4.5 team made state again this year. We apparently have been out recruited....

One of the teams we played had two players in particular that really show what is wrong with the USTA. One of them is currently playing Div II tennis and hasn't graduated and the other is playing Div I tennis and hasn't graduated. The captain of the team told me the guy playing Div II tennis self-rated two years ago at....3.5. He played Junior College prior to going to the D2 school where his team place 13th in the nation. He is currently ranked 39th in the country in D2 singles and 14th in doubles. 4.5? I think not. Oh...and yeah, I got to play him... :)

We have a 27-year old singles player who did play Div III tennis, but hey....he's 27 and works for a living now.

Here locally, there is also a kid who played for BYU and self-rated 4.5.

The USTA is a joke.

file some protests.
Shoulds be pretty cut and dry with the nationally ranked D2 player that is out of level, all you have to do is provide proof of the ranking and if the Section really wants to crack down they will immediately DQ the player whether he has a prior rating or not.
BTW looking at ranking if it is the player you're talking about he must have rated under a different name then b/c he is in computer as a 5.0 and no league team for 2008.

File protests against both players. According to the NTWP General and Experienced Guidelines, if under 30 years of age, Div I unranked college team or player is a 5.5, and Div 2 top ranked college team or player is also a 5.5. If the Div 2 guy self-rated two years ago while playing Junior College, than according to the guidelines he should have self-rated then as a 4.5.

If the Div 2 guy self-rated before he played in college, than they may say he is OK because he has a computer rating.

Your guy is fine. He played Div 3 which is not much better than a high school student. At 27 according to the guidelines he gets self-rated at a 4.5 level.

You also have to take into account that these guidelines are not extremely accurate. I know a lot of college players, Div 1, 2, & 3 who play at a 4.0-4.5 level and they should not be playing any higher than that.

All you can do is file the grievance and see what happens.

I assume these college players played little to none during the regular season that is why nothing was filed against them earlier?

Common tactic? Hide your superstar players during regular season by having them play the minimum number of matches and tank a few.
