Whats this guys grips on his FH and backhand? It almost seems as if he doesn't swap grip, despite having a 1hander. Is he using continental? Or a really mild eastern? He seems to get a lot of spin anyway which is weird too

Looks to be SW going off this still frame. If it was eastern the racquet face would be more parallel to the camera.



Backhand looks Eastern to me going off this still frame. Knuckle is inline with the top bevel.

What's cool is that he hits a fairly straight arm forehand which is rare in these days of bent arm style.

I know most people are gaga over the 1HBH, but that FH is a thing of beauty.

Right up there with the holy trinity of straight arm FHs, ie Federer, Nadal, Verdasco. I left Dimitrov out as something about his FH seems "off", but then again, being a crappier off-brand of a better and more famous player will do that.

Man I hope so. Love watching him play and love how often he comes into the net. I always like watching straight arm forehands and one handed backhand players. Aesthetically pleasing. First full match I’ve watched him play was against Djoko and I instantly became a fan after the first set.

Yeah he must hit it similar to delpo. Tall guy with a flat swingpath

Almost seems to hvr the opposite of most players: flat fh and spinny bh

For you guys interested, Tsitsipas has noticably shortened his FH takeback in Toronto compared to previous tournaments. I wonder why. It looks less fluid now but it's obviously performing well.

So he can take the ball earlier. His game will transition very well from clay to the faster surfaces because of the way he hits his forehand.

His FH has definatley shortened up since DC, he still needs to improve the consistency of his 1HBH and maybe get someone like Tommy Robredo to help him stay more consistent with it

Yes He also was a lot inside the baseline. His Game really reminds me of fed. Also his behavior on court very calm and focused. Celebrating like a normal Human and not like an idiot like some of the others...
Hopefully he stays the same even when there may come massiv success...

Why do you consider Robredo? he almost never hitted a backhand if he hasnt have to

^Either Robredo or Haas(aside from my #1 Fed), I grew up watching their 1 handers along with Fed and have just always liked their style

Bottom line is Tsitsipas needs help on his backhand because he shanks alot of them or hits it way late when he's put under pressure

He bends his arm on his follow through for his OHBH which makes it look quite different to me. Just a 'style' thing, or is it significant?

I think it’s because his swinging path is not as brushing-oriented as most other players, especially from the young generation. Even his serve looks a bit old school. He’s still do young so everything could change. I’m a fan of modern wind shield wiper forehand but his game style is super enjoyable.

I liked his short angle bh slices yesterday against Zverev. Also am impressed with his variety/innovation ie. the dtl fh slice approach a la Fedrah. He seems very level headed and articulate in pressers too and is very athletic for a 6’5” guy.
wanna see a better—deeper and lower bh slice in extreme defensive positions tho...

From the video, he seems to use very mild eastern both sides for baseline rally. The picture above shows he was holding a FH SW. Note it looks like he was inside the court in the picture. Switching to SW inside court is pretty usual to hit approaching or finishing off. Conservative grips don't mean less spin, actually it means more spins potential. just a bit less common these days.
