Suggestion for a new forum rule: adress the content, not the poster

I have a suggestion from another forum which works very well there. I don't want to have an extremely tough moderated forum but we have a very disturbing trend here, that personalities of posters rather than content is discussed.

I think whether the poster is a mommy's boy or other stuff has little to do with tennis. I also think that "cross chasing" over several threads has to be kept to a minimum. the forum I speak off has a very strict anti off-topic policy, people there get banned for off topic and can't bring up what someone said in another thread but strictly have to stay at just discussing the content of that thread.

While I think it is sometimes necessary to call out a troll I think the cross chasing and commenting on posters personalities and credibilities is way overdone here.

Posters need to focus on CONTENT and not Persons here.

on the other hand of course if you protect people from those behaviours you also need to ban trolls more quickly because this policy would of course protect them. that means the mods would need to do that job but I think it is necessary because the personal bickering is really ruining the experience of the more sane and friendly posters.

People that are chasing and calling out people all the time need to be stopped but at the same time of course the mods need to stop the obvious trolls

Not entirely sure what exactly you're talking about, but from my experience, I only go after obvious trolls who have been banned under previous accounts and haven't been rebanned yet. Only very occasionally am I wrong (I only remember one instance), in which case I apologize immediately. It's a pretty delicate balance, but from what I've seen, I feel like the trolls are the bigger problem.

I think that is fine, however we are seeing some constant bickerings between posters here that are disrupting threads. of course it can be funny if for example LeeD and sureshs are picking at each other but for new guys that can be very disturbing.
