Swings thoughts?

I picked this up playing golf a bunch of years ago and it helped me improve my game immensely. Now that I've started playing tennis again, it seemed natural to do the same thing. I think about what my head needs to tell my body about what my stroke, feet, head, arm, wrist, ... needs to do. I write down my successes and/or failures after a match or workout then I'm able to look at my notes and apply them before the next time I play.

I'm sure other players do this with more or less structure.

I agree with what Tom Avery states in his video lessons, only 2-3 swing thoughts in your head at a time. As swing thoughts become more natural to your game, you can replace them or bring them back as necessary like on a bad day. Sometimes you need to change them during a match.

I break mine down into categories like ground strokes FH BH, serve, returns, ...

Anyway, here's some from my list. What's on yours?

Light grip
Turn shoulders
Bend knees
Stay low
Hit out front
Eyes on ball
Head steady
Step into a smooth swing
Toss ball high and out front
Step into and punch volley
Short backswing
High ball, topspin deep

You can even add some expletives...these are usually quiet, usually...

Watch the f*****g ball
Way to bend you knees dip***t

I also try to do a more positive approach but that only works out 50% of the time. These can be louder!

Nice volley, way to stay low :-D
You should hit the ball more out front

Anyway, hopefully this can help your game or at least give you a good laugh!

Don't forget to post your swing thoughts. I might use 'em!!

I have to admit that 2-3 swing thoughts in my head is roughly 1-2 more than I can concentrate on at any given time. HA! Golf has taught me a couple of good things for tennis, but it crosses my wires sometimes if I play them too close together. Ahh, the process.

Two cues that help me keep after my game:
1) Quick feet>arrive at the hitting zone ahead of the ball.
2) Never add more than 5% velocity to a ball during a rally to maintain control.
