Taking the ball earlier with topspin

I’m a 4.5 lefty player who has based his game off of Nadal, so I hit with a lot of spin. I use a Pure Aero with an eastern forehand grip, but whenever I try to take the ball early it seems to come off flat instead of with topspin. Any tips on how to fix this?

The ball is rising when you hit it early so the relative upward speed of your racquet head is reduced by how fast the ball is bouncing upward, and that creates a flatter shot. If you want to retain the same amount of topspin, you'll have to swing with a more vertical racquet path.

Just accept it, and focus on having the right frame tilt to drive the ball into the corners.

Wait, you skipped a step. Why is it a problem? Why do you want to fix it?

Do you frequently hit long? Or something else?

If you're taking the ball early with an eastern grip, you're going to hit a flat ball. So unless you want to change your grip (which is a long process that entails relearning how to hit every shot), just learn to control a flatter forehand when you choose to hit on the rise.

When you say you're trying to take the ball early, my translation is that you're trying to hit the ball on the rise. Is that right? If so, I think you'll need to work on using a stroke with a couple of tweaks.

Maybe the answer is to hit it off the bounce at the waist level. This way even if the shot is flatter you get better clearance from the net.

If you are going to base on Nadal, then do it more like Nadal. He generally avoids hitting his Fh on the rise and mostly takes it near the apex or after the ball starts to drop.....this is why his tends to play so deep in the court.
