Technifibre NRG2 vs. X-One Biphase

I've heard good things about both strings, and would like to try out a Technifibre string since I have Technifibre racquets. When I demoed the the racquets, I know that they were strung with some type of Technifibre string. Since I loved the feel of the racquet then, I was hoping to test some Technifibre strings on the racquets to see if I liked the setup. Which string is the best for what?

Very interesting topic.
This two are the strings I've been switching to and fro for a couple of years.
I cannot tell which is the best, or the one that I prefer.
X-one is a little stiffer (so more control) and seems to have a far better tension stability.
NRG2 is more dynamic and, to me, more similar to gut. On the other hand it holds tension worse than x-one.

What to say. I'm currently using on my ncode 95 x-one 130 at 23-22 kg and I feel it's to stiff. Either I keep the tension and decrease the gauge or I keep the gauge and I go for 22-21 kg.

Any other opininon?

I have not played with Nrg2. I have a year and a half on X-One Biphase, so I cannot give you any play test comparison.

What I can tell you is that the USRSA machine testing results have these two very, very close to each other. According to this one source, the X-1 biphase is 2% stiffer and loses tension 5% faster, than Nrg2. This kind of slight difference is well within a normal range of testing error. The big picture is that the material of the string matters much more than the design of the string.

As to the previous threads mention that a stiffer string creates more control, that is open to debate. Some would argue that since a softer string creates a longer dwell time, or deeper pocket, that this creates control. I do know from experience, AND machine testing data, that X1 Biphase is among the softest playing multifilament nylons available, and will hold tension very well right up until breakage.

Best regards

Nrg2 is the softest string I ever used. Too soft maybe, and loses tension very rapidly and keep losing until breaking. It has good power, nice feel, and that mushy feel everyones talking about. Durability isn't good. Lasted about 6 hrs in a Prestige. I wouldn't buy it again.

nrg2 is not a soft string..it mimics gut more closely than any other synthetic i have used and gut is a crisp string. i agree with arifeds post. the b-phase seems to have addressed the problems with the nrg2..those being tension maintenance and durabilty, but it does it a bit at the expense of gutlike feel. the bi phase to me feels like it is between the nrg2 and laserfibre supreme..it's a nice compromise. the suporeme just feels to boardy to me. i used the nrg2 for a long time..didnt get much mileage out of and it broke on me about the same time that the stringbed went goofy so that came out about right....for the additional longevity and performence i think it cheaper to go gut hybrid as it would be cheaper for a lot of people to get the extra hours of play. have no idea where the USRSA gets ther figures sometimes..the bi phase is alot stiffer playing than the nrg2 but it holds tension much much better than the nrg2..not the other way around.

I had used NRG2 exclusively in my HEAD Ti.Classic for almost 1 1/2 years. The string had tremendous feel, great bite on the ball, and added extra power to my racket. Here's the bad: loses tension quick (I was restringing every 2 weeks), as the strings lose tension the strings seem to have hot spots.

So NRG2 was great performing string when strung up for a 1 to 2 day tournament.

Switched to X-One because I heard that it was better at holding tension. Personally, I could not tell a big improvement at all. X-One seemed to lose tension just as fast, and the feel of the string wasn't the same. I preferred NRG2.

All that being said, I grew tired of spending $12 per string job and so often. I began testing other strings. I tested aprox. 10+ other strings and types. Surprisingly, I settled with Prince Original Synthetic Gut. *laugh* This string has been on the market for years. I was surprised by the feel and playability of the string. The string held it's tension (slight loss just after stringing then the string sets in) until breakage. The string does break quickly in an open string pattern, but a closed string pattern (18x20), the string is lasting aprox. 1 month per racket....which is about 20+ sets of tennis.

SUMMARY

I would recommend NRG2 over X-One. Prince Synthetic Orginal (strung 2 pounds lighter) is more economical and provides enough feel that I no longer use NRG2.

How did that setup compare to Luxilon ALU Power and (presumably what you had before) synthetic gut?

it played much softer than luxilon bb alu power, but its probably not going to be as durable

I meant, how does Luxilon Big Banger and a synthetic gut like PSGD compare with Luxilon Big Banger and NRG2?

I play with Natural Gut and I can tell you that the X-One Biphase is superb string closely to gut. The tension seems to hold until break. I play 17g and the feel and control is great. I don't really care much about durability. I care more about control and feel. Try hybrid X-One Biphase with Ti-MO you'll like it
