Tiley has defended himself, and he denies TA misled players:

“We reject completely that the playing group was knowingly misled,” Tennis Australia said. “Informing players they could get into the country on a medical exemption was taken from the Smart Traveller website that Greg Hunt directly referred us to.”

Lets have a look at that site.

Hmm. It sure looks reputable. And it talks about getting a medical exemption to enter the country unvaxed. Everything checks out.

Except: That site is for Australian nationals, not foreign nationals. It says so right on the site:

“The information on Smartraveller is to help Australians make informed decisions about overseas travel. This includes information in official destination-specific travel advisories and general advice.

All travellers need to take responsibility for their overseas travel decisions.

The information on Smartraveller isn't intended to be, nor should it be relied on, as a substitute for legal or other professional advice. Users should obtain any appropriate professional advice relevant to their particular circumstances.”

And there are plenty of clues, like how it talks about coming back home to Australia.

And Tiley is so dumb he still hasn’t figured out that they got it wrong. Lordy.

He is trying to weasel out with that small word "knowingly". Reading between the lines, though they won't admit it in black and white, they "unknowingly" misled the players.

****show, all around.

Knowingly, unknowingly or stupidity, they fcked up.

But that doesn't change that Djokovic was probably trying to get away with something.

This is the "get out of jail free card": TA can always fall back on the reasoning that yes, the verbiage appeared to support an exemption but it wasn't a formal, legal ruling.

Although, what "professional advice" would the players have turned to and how would that person know whether the govt was going to approve the exemption? There's no clear accountability for who or which body was going to rule and what the criteria were.

Also, there was little if any precedent on which to rely. Djokovic could have done everything 100% by the book and still gotten denied because which book was being followed, who decided, and were players aware of this a priori?

I believe him that they didn't knowingly mislead players.

But they SURE DID s**T the bed with due diligence, didn't they? I mean, you would think that the organizers of an enormous international sporting event would rely on more than a website (that they couldn't even decipher is for Australians and not foreign nationals) to ensure players were in compliance with entry requirements?

Maybe, I dunno, hire some Australian immigration attorneys to advise on the process, or, I dunno, talk to the federal government?

Of course he didn’t knowingly misled them. Why would he do that unless he was malicious or nuts.

He didn’t address why TA told players that a recent Covid infection was an out to being vaxed when TA had email from the Govt. explicitly informing TA that it was not an out to being vaxed. Would be useful to learn the date the email was received.

The Commonwealth Government has leaked documents favourable to their case, but good luck getting any documents off them that are unavourable.

So you're telling me that the c.e.o of Tennis Australia based the grounds of this medical exemption off a website that any Aussie could look up & read through in a few minutes? No communications with any formal immigration legal teams from the state or federal government?

This reeks of knowingly misleading players. If that's all he's got to defend himself, he looks like an absolute fool.

I'm guessing he knew there wasn't a legal way to get Djoker in, tried his best & then had this flimsy card up his sleeve in the event of a backfire.

Because there has never been any proof that any c.e.o in the history of humanity of any premeditated illegal wrongdoing (corruption) ever? No, no way!

Sure, you can say we can't prove either way as none of us know.

But just ask yourself, which end goal would he have wanted? Having the 3-time defending champion & all time Oz Open g.o.a.t & current world #1 playing @ our biggest tournament yes or no?

You don't have to be nuts to do these things. It's business & Tiley obviously wanted the main guy to play & most likely had another bunch of faceless white dudes pressuring him to get the job done $$$ , & if the end goal is worth all of the loophole digging, any c.e.o would do the same as Tiley in this situation. With the difference being a more competent one being able to get the job done without looking like a corrupt fool in the process.

He may be forced to resign over this.He may not, who knows. But either way he has tarnished himself as public image is everything with these powerful individuals.

I’m naive. I rely on the kindness of strangers. :giggle:

It would explain sitting on a Nov email. But I’m going with the more common explanation: negligent and/or dumb. Though you’ve made a case that should be investigated.

Oh man. You'd be let down more often than not unfortunately. Most family households fight eachother to the bone over $1, let alone an absolute stranger being sincerely nice. Unless you have something they want, then they'd magically find the time for you ;)
