Hey everyone, I am going to start to play again tennis after many years, I tried before some months ago but probably with a wrong shoes and I had immediately an Achilles tendonitis. I would like to change my shoes and have something better that help me to prevent this inflammation again. I am not sure between the Asics gel resolution 8 or 9 and the Yonex eclipsion 4. What you suggest ? Any experience with them ?

stay away from Asics.
I had a huge issue with the Court FF2, Head Revolt fixed it for me, no issues with Diadora BIcon

Your shoes are likely too old as it is common to feel Achilles soreness (alongwith knee and foot pain) when the shoes don’t offer enough support. Just buy new shoes.

GR8s work well for me, but with a runner’s knot using the last lacehole to prevent heel slippage.

You'll want something with a more substantial heel-to-toe drop. Any shoe that's a zero drop or low drop will put more stress on your achilles and calves.

Hi Znak which one you suggest ? Where I can find this informations about the shoes ? Most of them they are not reporting the drop. Thanks

I’d check Foot Doctor Zach’s YouTube channel. He discusses good shoes for Achilles pain in his 2023 Shoe Guide video I think.

I would also stay away from the Gel Resolution 9. I’ve had some weird Achilles flare up in my left foot since using that shoe, as great as it is.

Nike GP Turbo probably would’ve been great for this but good luck finding any pairs of those.

Get New Balance Fresh Foam X Lav V2. Shoe has some arch support and great comfort and is available in wide if you need that. And also get an insole with rigid or semi rigid arch support. Here are some good ones:
1. Airplus Plantar Fascia Orthotic Insole For Men
2. Dr Scholls Plantar Fasciitis Pain Relief Orthotics
3. Dr Scholls Plantar Fasciitis Sized to Fit Pain Relief Insoles (this is different from #2 above)
4. Move Game Day Pro Insoles
5. Aetrex Men's Compete Posted Orthotics
6. PowerStep Pinnacle Insoles, Plantar Fasciitis & Heel Pain Relief Orthotic

Don't get these:
1. Dr. Scholl’s Tri-Comfort Insoles (the arch support is way too soft in this, it doesn't support the arch very much)

Generally but not always you can do an eye test with the slope of the foam under the shoe. Yeah most aren't listed which is a bummer I agree, someone else mention Zach foot doctor on YouTube he cuts through shoes and will give you the measurements. Or you can try them on in a shop and talk to the associate they should be able to help.

Test the shoes
as shown in
in my thread:
and read the whole article.

I think the shoes recommended for plantar fasciitis and those recommended for Achilles
are pretty much the same - they must be flexible in the same area of the sole.

Years ago, I got PF with NB800 and got rid of it only when I switched to Sampras's Nike Air Oscillates, a very flexible, extraordinary shoe. Still available at the eb** site in limited sizes now and then,

Also, consult the Health forum here too.

See:
Nike please bring back the Air Oscillate in performance spec!

I also found that the Spenco inserts help a lot with the foot problems.

I have been dealing with Achilles Tendinopathy for the past 1.5 years. It started while I was wearing Vapor X's. I found that the shoes that have been most comfortable are the Nike GP Turbos. I stocked up a few pairs once I knew they were being discontinued. I find the two big elements for me are 1) a bit of a heel 2) cushioning 3) a heel that curves away from the Achilles as opposed to towards it so there's no pressure on it. I also wear orthotics now.

That said, it's still a continuous daily problem for me that I've yet to solve and has been a slow path to recovery. I at least can get out on the court for a few hours a week now. Good luck to you! It sucks.

Thanks a lot for all the information, Foot Doctor Zach is suggesting the Lotto Raptor, and some of you suggest the Nike GP turbos (air zoom), I found them online of course sold out. I will also have a look of a good insole.

Cause they're not making new ones for men. What you're finding online is old stock they haven't sold yet.
