This is a poll based on opinion, so please keep it professional. (NOTE: Both in their primes, 1v1, NBA games, accomplishments...all of these put together, KOBE or JORDAN?
here we go again.
this is unfair for both players to be compared. different era, technology, rules, teammates, etc... jordan was the best player of his time, kobe is the best player in the nba right now. even jordan said it himself. let's just enjoy the moment that we've seen these 2 best players ever play the basketball game.
Eras? What technology or rules changed from 1998 to 2008 so we can't compare them??here we go again.

Yea if Jordan had this years Lakers team in his prime no way they lose to the Celtics. Jordan in his prime was not losing to anybody in anything or he would punch them in the face.
Defensivly MJ is much better than Kobe, and MJ wouldnt go in spells of Hogging the ball he still played team basketball

We're not comparing Bryant with Bob Pettit...

that's not fair to say. I'm not saying Jordan wouldn't stand a chance, but it's a whole new ball game nowadays, and today's player is much faster, stronger, etc. than before. You can't just assume that MJ would win while Kobe wouldn't. Perhaps he'd give it more of a fight than Kobe did, but I really don't think that MJ even could overcome 3 all-stars and a solid supporting cast when his players didn't do much for him. Again, not arguing for Kobe, just saying it's not fair to just assume that. I could just as easily assume that Wilt Chamberlain, who was one of the tallest players of his generation where there wasn't as tall of players wouldn't do as well, especially since your average center is probably 6 foot 11 or bigger, and has a huge wingspan, but I can't. Nobody can say for sure whether Wilt would have adjusted and still had good results, or just being a good, but not hall-of-fame caliber player.
Actually the only rules that changed were the rules making it easier to score (no handchecking) and the refs calling tickytack shooting fouls. Kobe would have never surviced playing those Pistons teams with Isaih, Dumars, lambeer, and Rodman and the rest of the brawlers.
NBA lets the offensive player drive into the lane with head tucked down and blantantly run into dudes and the fould gets called everytime (D-Wade vs Dallas in finals) Back in the day that was a no call if the defender was not aggresive.
I will compare Kobe and any other player to Jordan. But its pointless, Jordan is the greatest to play the game and nobody on the Horizon is poised to take over.
Yes I think it is fair. kobe mopes around and talks smack about his teamates in offseason. And continues to gripe during the regular season. Then the NBA giftwraps Pau Gasol to LA.
If jordan in his prime had Gasol and Odom he doesnot let the Celtics win. He would have D-up Rondo or Allen or Pierce. Whoever he had to D-Up. He would have lit a fire under Odom and the rest of team. And inspired them to win that series.
If not he would have just bullcharged in he paint all day and shot 50 free throws a game.
jordan made everyone else around him better while kobe just made his stats better
my guess you are a good bit younger than i am to witness jordan's prime. kobe quit on his team several times during the season while jordan would of been in everyone's face demanding them to step up. jordan was feared on his team while kobe is just respected as the elder statesmen on his squad. when kobe gets close to jordan's ring count then we can argue more in depth
Ditto!
Watching Jodan play on the court was like watcing a bball ballet! Wanna talk hang time? There is a reason the called him Air Jordan. MJ just seemed to defy the laws of gravity.
MJ was the ultimate team player and one of the last true gentelmen in the NBA. He is sorely missed to this day.
wow most cliched argument ever. I agree, Kobe is more selfish than MJ was, but you don't win the MVP in today's game for being the best individual player. You have to make your teammates better in order to win it today, and Kobe did. Don't you remember what he did at the beginning of the season? Even though he complained, he still lead the Lakers to a very good record, and because he was less selfish, HE MADE BYNUM RELEVANT. Us Lakers fans are excited for Bynum b/c he started to play well once Kobe played less selfishly. Again, I hate to sound like I'm on Kobe's side here (b/c like I said, MJ is the best, although these two shouldn't really be compared at all IMO), but these cliched arguments against Kobe really should stop, and I'm saying this as a Lakers fan only. Kobe has improved his all-around game as well, and just as you guys get upset when Kobe lovers (like I supposedly am even though CP3 and Lebron are my favorites) talk about how good he is, it's just as irritating when people like me who can appreciate him make such cliched remarks about him based on his past.
Kobe, the "best" ever? Outside of "beef" and (maybe) "rape" no way.......Ha ha ha. This is a joke right? Jordan was like Bill Russel. Individually great but also a great winner that made everyone around him believe they could win also.
And Kobe? Well....let's just say he scores a lot. The way he hogs the ball you would think he gets paid by the minute for holding the ball.
This is a no brainer. In fact it's king of the no brainers...Michael Jordan.
Perhaps the best rapist of Japanese bred beef?Kobe, the "best" ever? Outside of "beef" and (maybe) "rape" no way.......
Pippen became a superstar because of Jordan, but Michael became a CHAMPION because of Scottie! Its not a cliche, its the TRUTH! Jordan not only made the team better, he made their teammates better, made them believe in themselves, believe in the team, yeah sounds cliche, but ask ANY NBA expert and he'll tell you its the truth; Pippen would have never been the great player he was if not because of Jordan (he's one of the NBA's 50 greatest), PIppen became a superstar, the rest of the team, became competent if not great players, all because of MJ's precense, determination, being so demanding in practice, just hear Phil Jackson and teammates talk about what was like having Jordan in practice, he demanded perfection and complete commitment from everyone, heck, look at how Rodman was able to become a part of the end of the Bulls dinasty, tell me if Kobe couldve dealt with that. Kobe's a great player, but he cant stand on MJs shadow

Scottie = GOAT
Eras? What technology or rules changed from 1998 to 2008 so we can't compare them??
... and yet, pippen almost made it as a champ without jordan.
Jordan, no brainer.
Jordan vs. Chamberlain would be a better matchup.
Nah, this ain't tennis, it's simpler than that. Kobe is a poor man's Jordan. And he's certainly not the second best basketball player ever.
Jordan actually said that in his prime he was better than Kobe. He was pretty damn confident about that. They're not quite as humble in b-ball as in tennis, and I likes it. Kobe however is very humble when people compare him to Jordan and says to stop comparing him to the greatest player to play the game.
As much as I hate the team swapping hypothetical situations, I have to agree to a certain extent with superman. There's no way MJ would've let Pierce take over a game like that. No way.that's not fair to say. I'm not saying Jordan wouldn't stand a chance, but it's a whole new ball game nowadays, and today's player is much faster, stronger, etc. than before. You can't just assume that MJ would win while Kobe wouldn't. Again, I think that's pure speculation that Kobe couldn't do this in this era, or MJ can't do that in today's game in their primes. There's no way to compare them. And Kobe in his earlier seasons had pretty good results (i.e. 1999, 2000) when the league was still relatively similar to Jordan's era, and during this time, he wasn't at his full peak, and he was playing with Shaq, who could be the best center of all-time in terms of sheer dominance, and Shaq was in his prime during these stages. So again, and I know Hot Sauce is going to think that I'm "riding Kobe's dick", but that's not my point. My point is you can't really compare these two that well without speculating. So as one poster said, just let Kobe enjoy his reign as top player in the world for his era, and let MJ be known as the top for his era, and even if MJ is the best of all-time (and I think there is a great case for that), give Kobe credit where he deserves it.
What about Pippen's years with the Blazers?really? you mean the '94 season where they lost in the EASTERN CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS? Hardly almost champs, though that was a hell of a series and Pippen would've been MVP if the bulls made it through.... BS call on the last play of game 7, remember?????
What about Pippen's years with the Blazers?

the game was different when jordan played. jordan never had to face the zone defenses kobe has today. he was a better inside scorer and more physical than kobe, but how well would his playing style work against the zone (specifically celtics final) where they close off all the lanes and shadow you with 4 players. check out this vid of kobe vs zone defense.
