- He came back from number 22 ranking spot.
- He came back when Federer, and Nadal(despite the last 2 months), were playing blistering tennis, and showed them who is boss.

Djokovic has had a fantastic run, no doubt! But Nadal has been injured most of that time, and Federer has been far from blistering. Stan is out, Andy is out.

Federer came back from poor ranking and surgery to beat his nemesis in the epic NUFF SAID!!! final, then the sunshine double, Halle, Wimbledon, Shanghai... beating a very good Rafa 4 times in a row...

Rafa came back from long break, reached lots of finals and would have swept the entire HC season if not for Federer, then Decima - which was outstanding in its own right - then USO...

Djokovic beat a Rafa who was playing his best Wimbledon in years.....in one of the greatest matches Wimbledon has ever seen.

Yes, he did. And I agree, that was a super match that saved 2018 :)

I am just not sure why his comeback is the greatest in tennis history.

I listed my reasons above.

Put it this way. In April, if anybody said that Djokovic would finish YE1, he would have been laughed at.
Not so with Rafa, or Roger, when Djokovic declined in 2017. People expected Rafa/Roger to take the top.

It is the greatest (loudest) roar but not the greatest comeback

It is a fantastic comeback no doubt but calling it the greatest is pure fanboyism especially when Fedal have just accomplished something insane

LOL. A worn out Djokovic made it to USO finals in 2016 and almost won it - such was the depth of the era in 2016 and we are wondering if he would come back ever ? He was barely 28 then

People expected Rafa to beat Roger easily in the AO final

Federer looked very finnish when he fell at Wimbledon, it was too symbolic to ignore

Federer was 35 when he made his comeback

It was more expected that Novak would make a huge comeback at 30/31. His comeback also started with very poor results, while Federer got right back into it after his break

I agree a Rafa comeback was expected, at least on clay
Without a sharp Federer, Nadal's 17 could have been one of the most dominant seasons in tennis history. Still did the amazing clay run, won USO and finalist at AO

Djokovic's comeback, started with his match against Edmund at Wimby. That's why I created this thread. I would be hesitant to say, that it might have started to his finals appearance at Queens. But for me it was versus Edmund. Crowd against him. Umpire against him. The ROAR, was the beginning for me. When he beat Edmund I knew he was back, mentally.

Yeah, there was never any doubt that a guy who was 22nd at the beginning of last summer would eventually be in his current position. And one of the reasons for that is the weak NextGen and injury issues of some of the main rivals, totally different to 2017 when Fedal were battling Greek Gods everywhere.

I agree w this.
I guess the big 3 all had the greatest comeback in history now.

It’s just that it just happened to Novak so we should let them enjoy the moment.
Think about how awesome it must be to be a Novak fan right now.

1.Djokovic was the youngest of the 3 while making the comeback
Fed was 35.5 -36 years old for his AO-IW-Miami-Halle-Wimb run and 36.5 years for his 17-0 start in 2018

2. Fed and Nadal had each other to contend all of 2017 while Novak had only Nadal at Wimb

Fed had to overcome the mental baggage of the 10-23 h2h

3. Fed faced 4 top 10 players at AO 17.

4, Fed won three 5 set matches at AO 17 making it epic

5. Nadal achieved the crazy 10th and 11th FO

6. Fed came back from a surgery while Novak came from a small procedure

7. Novak’s comeback was already on the cards given he made QF of FO, made SF of clay masters , had CP to win Queens . Fed was already down. Nadal was the only obstacle this year.

8. And finally Fed scripting the greatest of magic from 1-3 down in 5th set being lesser against the dud straight set finals for Djoker against Anderson ?

Great comeback from Novak, top stuff!

But the other two were just as great. And, to be fair, I think grandpa's was least expected.

I hope all 3 can perform on a high level in 2019 :) And if Stan and Andy have something left to prove, it may be a great season. Zverev and Thiem, Tsitsi... may be interesting!

Okay, okay Federer is the greatest, most beautiful, with greatest hair, most beautiful wife and greatest comeback...(y)(y)
Now can you leave this thread for Djokovic fans to have one place were can praise their man's comeback.;)

When all of the "Big 5" were playing, Djokovic was still called a vulture. Murray was even mocked for like three years because he couldn't do much damage to Djokovic, but now that he is not playing, let's say that also contributed to Djokovic having a more successful 2018 among other things.

And it's rather interesting how one year ago some didn't even want to call Nadal's 2017 a comeback to begin with because he wasn't out for half a year, but now rate it insane. Not interested in mocking those cakewalk draws and the clay field now, like it was the case back in every single match thread at the time he was playing? Of course not, because it's not convenient in this moment.

Yeah, you totally saw this coming when he lost to Cecchinato on clay and to Cilic in Queens.

:-D

The Djokovic fanbase here including Rf-22 was confident that Novak will end YE No 1 the moment he won Wimb.

I don’t need to quote the thread.

The thread here is silly to call Novak’s comeback the greatest

Came here to read comments by Goat's fanbase ..
As usual they will try and discredit Novak's Comeback :p

Suggesting it's the greatest comeback in tennis history is bound to cause some reactions :)

No one has said it wasn't a great comeback - just pointing out there were two very similar ones last season.

I know you want support from Djoko fanbase for your Fed hate. I have no qualms in admitting that Djoker had one of the greatest comebacks but to call it the ‘greatest’ is LMFAO territory

I remember that thread and said myself that his start of the season was too poor to accomplish that. Though I thought Nadal would not only play but even be decent in the post-USO season.

It's not far from the greatest either. Federer did it at older age and delivered straight away at his first tournament back, but going from 22nd to 1st in four months after sucking for basically two years and having all sorts of problems is stunning as well. Federer never hit the bottom that hard during his struggles.

Don't try to be a saint, Django. It really doesn't suit you.

My posts were serious. I am praising all three comebacks, while you stand to your knees in sarcasm trying to cater to Djokovic fans egos. Sad strategy :censored:
Just move on from this thread junior and leave Djokovic fans to have their moment. There's plenty of threads around for you to spread your fanboyism.;)

Although it took him a while, I actually think AA's turnaround doesn't get enough praise. Maybe because it happened a long time ago and not many people saw it, at least in comparison to what the Big 3 did in the last two years.

Nope. I stick to my opinion wherever I'm posting. If I think Federer in 4 in GPPD, for sure I'm thinking the same in the other parts of this forum the same also.

For most of us , GPPD is for thoughts and opinions and Match results are our wishes

Not sure how many more times this needs repeated

All 3 comebacks are epic! There are good reasons for valuing any of the three above the others. The Federer comeback will always be special to me and I think AO17 was the greatest comeback slam win of the three. I'd probably personally rate Federer's the most impressive.

But you can't deny the epicness of Novak being total garbage for the majority of the first half of the year to winning back to back slams, including taking down Nadal in a crazy 5 setter, and winning two more masters - including Cincy, to complete the set.

The NextGen have unfortunately been largely disappointing (although they are starting to get it together now) but all 3 fanbases of the Big 3 have had a real unexpected treat over the past 2 years

I think his win over Nadal was vital. Although Nadal struggled in previous years on grass, I doubt anyone else was going to deny him at this year's Wimbledon. Managing to beat such a determined player in 5 quality sets did wonders for Djokovic's confidence.

Good reaction from him in the match against Edmund. A terrible call on a break point happened earlier in the match. It wasn't a one-sided contest so he did very well to stay composed after that.

Actually it's very funny thing. When you guys are being exposed and caught in your hypocrisy, usually you resort to excuses and logics very common for kids and young adolescents. Lol
Do you want me to quote all those pro match threads over the years were Djokovic or Nadal were the favourites in the polls against Fed.;)

When a player is playing pretty good, his fan base is going to vote for him in a GS final most of the time. Masters are a different animal and any major surface disadvantages will cause a change in votes too. You can't expect for a Federer fan to go against him in a vote if he has made it to a GS final unless it's the FO or he got lucky on the way to the final.
