Holy shiz, all these matches have been nail-biters. H2H is 7-5 currently.
This seems like the next big rivalry of Tennis between the old guard and the new guard!
Thiem should have even won AO, he choked. Djokovic needs a new strategy against Thiem for sure.
The only way Thiem could have a chance.Thiemovic SF at AO 2021 incoming...
I agree that Thiem choked a bit. But wasn't this the match where Djokovic disappeared off court for a non-injury medical timeout after his "energy collapsed".Thiem should have even won AO, he choked. Djokovic needs a new strategy against Thiem for sure.
Thiem leads both Nadal and Djokovic 3-2 in their last 5 meetings. He is no more the underdog against these guys. I would not be surprised if that H2H became increasingly more lopsided in Thiem's favour in the coming years
Thiemovic SF at AO 2021 incoming...
New Berrettini Open? @tennis_proA-a-are your saying Rafa gets Berrettini?
Madrid 2019 was really a weird match for my pov though, sir. Thiem looked like the better player for the majority of the 2 sets except when he was a break ahead.

But the thing is, Thiem should have won both of those matches in straight sets as well, sir.Djokovic threw away a double minibreak in two deciding ATP Finals tiebreaks and nobody wants to point that out and calls him outplayed instead
Lost both his biggest matches with them though.Thiem has won 3 of the last 4. against Nadal.
Same 3 out of 4 against Djokovic
Thiem should have served out the 2019 match in the 3rd and should have won the 2020 match in straights.Djokovic threw away a double minibreak in two deciding ATP Finals tiebreaks and nobody wants to point that out and calls him outplayed instead, while Thiem should have won but choked the Australian Open because he was up by a set yet barely had any opportunities since then. It's amazing how attention to margins changes depending on who won the match.
But the thing is, Thiem should have won both of those matches in straight sets as well, sir.
Those mistakes in 1st set TB in 2019 & 2nd set TB in 2020 WTF encounters.....
So all tight sets that could have gone either way, Djokovic was in occasional gifting mood then himself, him being less aggressive than Thiem in the match up makes it less obvious I guess. Australian Open final was a different match from those, each player being clearly superior to the other for periods. Personally I don't think he needs to make too many readjustments to keep Thiem in check. It won't be easy but it's not his biggest concern IMO.Thiem should have served out the 2019 match in the 3rd and should have won the 2020 match in straights.
Djokovic would have been incredibly lucky to win them.
There's a striking difference between Normal thiem and big final Thiem, sir.Lost both his biggest matches with them though.

No, just saying that Novak being up a double minibreak in both tiebreaks doesn't mean he shiuld have won.It seems your common consensus is, Thiem should have won all their close sets/matches and Djokovic should have lost. All their recent matches from 2019 onwards have been very close and nail biters.
To be clear I am not trying to be entitled about it, even though those are some of very rare examples where Djokovic was so close to winning but didn't. With his recent tiebreak record those stick out even more. Just saying his wins in the rivalry were more convincing. On the other hand, those two deciding TBs, 7-5 fifth set at tornado RG and a comeback in MC when Djokovic was still struggling... The gap is shrinking as it naturally should but Thiem had to dig deep a lot of times. The match up has been just as difficult for him.No, just saying that Novak being up a double minibreak in both tiebreaks doesn't mean he shiuld have won.

Djokovic should have been defaulted from that final.

LMFAOA-a-are your saying Rafa gets Berrettini?
I never claimed Thiem should have won that. But Theim going down 6-3 6-4 in the final sets of the AO final means he should have?
I never claimed Thiem should have won that.
I wouldn't say that if his level was actually up to par.Ok well maybe I am getting you mixed up with the chorus of posters who said he should have and choked, but you have to admit your post about Djokovic should be Slamless since AO 2019 isn't exactly giving him any credit either.
