There was actually a time womens tennis was better and more exciting than the mens. Those were the days.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJ0l6iNYQTY&nofeather=True Epic Venus vs Seles semifinal at the Olympics

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0BoEedeUR4 Amazing Miami final between Serena and Henin where Serena wins after being down 6-0, 5-4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGjlKQD24as Venus and Serena in their 4th straight slam final and perhaps their best ever at the Australian Open

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hND_CQfFqnQ The dramatic and emotion filled French Open final between Martina Hingis and Steffi Graf

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfQjEydd8fw The final match of the Graf-Seles rivalry, a 3 set slugfest at Roland Garros

Where has all this gone. :(

I never thought the womens' game was better/more intersting. I just respect the mens' better game a little more. But I understand what you're saying.

Kvitova's 222 Winners (Wimbledon 2011)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R26RvRctz4Q

Now we just need one or two people who can match her and they will propel each other to wild heights.

Yeah but she still makes about 1000 errors for every 222 winners it seems (ok a wild exagerration in this case but you get the idea). Dont get me wrong, I think she is by far the best women player at the moment, atleast until/if Serena returns to consistent top form, and it is no surprise she is sweeping the Player of the Year and Real #1 awards, and it is the biggest ranking joke in history Woz ended up computer #1 over her. Still even she has a ways to go yet to match the quality of players past.

If you ask me, I have to guess that Woz talent wise probably isn't really much better than somebody like Cibulkova. The difference in their results is that Cibulkova's game is extremely high risk and inconsistent consequently. AO next year is likely one of the last chances Woz has for a slam since imo we've seen the peak of Woz.

Actually, I have to wonder far more about those cake walk first week slam draws Woz kept getting this year than any of the Fed/Djok/Nad/Muzza "jiggling". :)

Yes if Wozniacki doesnt win a slam next year (and I highly doubt she will) she has no chance to ever win one. The WTA cant return to being as bad as it was in 2010-2011 for another millenium or so, so the Na and Schiavone examples are moot. She has already peaked as you said, I think in 2012 she will drop to #7 or lower by years end.

Sigh, I definitely miss those days. When I first started watching tennis in 02/03, I liked women's tennis better than mens. I don't think i'll ever find women's tennis exciting again though.

I've wracked my brains about this for a few years now and haven't come up with any satisfactory answer. I don't know what it is, but I seldom watch women's tennis nowadays whereas I used to follow the WTA tour almost as much as the ATP tour until the mid-noughties or so. Since then, my interest has dropped and by about 2009, I hardly watched any women's tennis at all apart from the very big matches.

Then again, there's not much about the early and mid 1980s era of women's tennis that gets me excited, apart from the top players. The glory years of the women's game were 1987-2002.

Venus was apart of the most exciting matches during modern womens tennis' heyday!

So exciting to watch!

I would like Venus, Serena, and Clijsters to play well next year and see what Kivitiva can do against them.
