Thicker gauge = arm issues?

Will a thicker gauge cause arm pain? I have recently had my 18x20 Pure Strike strung @ 48lbs with Pros Pro Vendetta 16g (130) and after hitting for 2 hours my elbow was achy. The vendetta itself is a very muted and soft string for a poly so im not sure if its the string or the gauge itself??

Is a thicker gauge likely to cause more arm ache over a thinner gauge?

Poly, no matter the gauge, will be the cause of many arm issues. Racket choice as well is a factor

Vendetta is a bit stiff and plastic-like. But yes, the thicker the string, the less elastic it is (less ball pocketing). Even worse on an 18x20. So just drop the tension a few lbs.

That's a very dense pattern, I'd use that tension with gut or a soft multi. With a poly, you should go below 40 pounds in that racket I think.

In general, thicker strings means stiffer. That also means you could string looser because the thicker gauge string won't be as springy and will retain more control.

However, you said it's already muted and you may find it more muted as you lower the tension. You may like that, you may not.

At 48lbs the tension felt just about right to me. I usually get my polys strung at 48. I wont be playing with the 16g again, shame really as I bought a 200m reel of it, good job it doesn't cost much.

I have just ordered some 18g Vendetta so once it arrives I will give that a try. Its not an expensive string so its not costing me much.
