String type or gauge worse for shoulder pain.

I recently hurt my shoulder away from tennis, probably an anterior deltoid strain or capsular tear (hope not). I play with a bunch of wilson ncode90s and wonder if the pain I'm now getting is from the original injury not healing or new strings and racquet set up, since I changed at the same time as the injury. Maybe coincidence. I saw a post about strings and health. Should have read it.

I recently switched from 17 gauge strings to 15L gauge. Feels softer. More flex. More drive. Does the thicker string cause more shoulder stress?

I use Bow brand gut in the mains and recently switched to Luxilon Big Banger 5star in the crosses from Gosen. Alu rough hurt my shoulder a year ago, same with this?

My string tension is 53#, recently went up to 57#. I also added a small amount of lead tape at 3 & 9. The whole setup is great but at the end of 3hours my shoulder hurts again for several days. Did not hurt before injury or before changes. Arm, wrist feels fine.

Too many changes? I can set up a racquet like before or string one all 16g gut. In case it's the frame I'm going to demo the new npro. If the shoulder was good maybe no problems, but this is slowing down the healing.

It might be just one factor, if any one knows & can pinpoint it, it would be great, otherwise learn from my mistakes, this sucks. I would hate to blame the racquets when it is really a more nasty injury, so we'll head for the MRI. Later, Cliff.

I uses a wilson ncode 6.1 95 racquet. I have to say that it is a stiff racquet and also causes shoulder pain to me.

Based on information I received from this forum, thicker string is more friendly to shoulders.

Thanks. I just called TW and they say luxilon is the culprit.

I just ordered the new wilson npro 98 & npro surge demos.

Hoped it wasn't the thick strings.

Hope to hear more.

Cliff, I'd ditch the poly crosses to start with. I think I'd also take the lead off the frame too. This is making it a little harder for you to swing. Reducing tension to your usual 53#'s will also make your setup more arm friendly.

Hi Gaines, always thanks. Will do. Strung one up today 53#. no poly, fed balls for nearly 3 hours - no pain.

I used to use 18g, but I haven't tried it in these frames. Will do.

I haven't taken the lead off yet but will do before serving.

Beware of POLY's, even with gut they can wound.

Can't wait to be back to normal.....Cliff
