This weird idea that Federer was somehow close to winning USO 2015 final....

I keep seeing this mentioned all the time and I think the record must be set straight on this. Federer was thoroughly dominated in set 1. Set 2 was the ONLY set in the entire match where he was definitely better than Novak(and he nearly choked that). Set 3 actually saw Novak up a break first so I don't know where this idea stems from that Federer somehow had the match in his pocket at the point. For argument's sake even if he had won that...Novak would have won the 4th as Fed was not even close in set 4(unless we are making a massive leap of faith and assuming a Fed with the confidence of a set win behind him would do much much better...somehow I don't buy that) and in set 5 fed was a goner anyway....Federer lost the match when he lost the first set.

Novak was better in the 1st.. 3rd set, Fed had a number of BPs at 4-4. So he could have served for that set. And he would have been up 2-1. That's where the debate stems.

There is something to be said about Federer actually winning more total points in the match. Obviously, that doesn't matter in the end, but it's a strong indicator that the match could have gone either way.

No, it means on the big points, he crumbled mentally (as he usually does in grand slam matches against Djokodal). He converted something like 3/24 break points. That stat tells you all you need to know.

Yea he wasn't close to Novak, he stayed at the baseline and was nervous, horrible performance, it was like "What happened to the Fed I see play all of the previous matches"

He wasn't. Djokovic could've beaten him in straight sets and allowed him only 2-3 games per set if he wanted to. He allowed him to be close. Fed played good too.

With all that was going against djoko with the fall and the crowd. Fed was lucky to win that 2nd set if i'm being honest.

Shiity performance.. Way too nervous. Not the free flowing style he played with earlier. Credit to Novak.
