Thoughts on carpet courts

Lots of variables in carpet courts.
Laid and glued down, they are consistent and play similar to brand new HarTru.
Badly laid, and not glued, there are inconsistent bounces and traction, causing a mystery bounce and skid.

Personally I can't stand them. They feel so false. Much prefer the bounce on a hard court.

Agreed. I played on a carpet court in Canary Islands I guess trying to mimic a grass court. Super slow. Slower still be a small degree of sand into it??? Go figure~

Carpet courts are generally very fast with the ball skidding through. I used to love playing on them indoors with my big serve, no wind indoors, not the best lighting for the returner, and the serves just skidding through past the returner.

Carpet courts at the old TransAmerica bounced super high, were slow, but fast sidespin serves did skid a lot.
Kinda accentuated the worst of all traits.
Most first serves bounced armpit high, including mine, and second serves well overhead.

There is a club in NH (near Hanover) that has very low bouncing carpet. When I bounced the ball before a serve, it didn't come back up to my hand.

I thought it was fine, once I got used to it, but one regular member there suggested using sneakers with worn out soles as the carpet sometimes grips the tread too much when pivoting, which can hurt your knee.

I think they must spend a lot of time vacuuming yellow fluff...

Hell, I wish the Dallas/Ft. Worth area had something other than hard courts to play on. The only exception to that rule is if you're hella wealthy and then you MIGHT have a club with a clay court. :(

Too bad I'm poor.
