Thoughts on Head Microgel Radical MP

Hi,

I'm currently playing with Head PMP+, I like them but when testing older frames such as Ncode Six one I miss that old feel that is hard to describe in words. I had an idea and would love to get some input. I thought of purchasing Head Microgel Radical MP and modifying to my spec which would approximately be 340g static weight, 330 swing weight and 31.5 balance, they are quite cheap and readily available in new condition.

Has anyone tried this or have any experience with Head Radical Microgel MP at all? It would be great to hear. I haven't been able to find much info at all about this racquet.

I played with the original model for years and it was a great, arm-friendly racquet that did everything well for me. I am not sure that the ones being sold present day are exactly the same as the originals. I have heard they are slightly different. There are plenty of threads on this forum talking about them and you will see they have been recommended a lot over the years to players of all levels.

Thank you sir, I found some threads after using the abbrevations. If the re-issue might've compromised the integrity of the original version, perhaps it is worth it to instead buy an original or a Youtek in good condition and go from there.

I also have a Youtek IG Radical and kept it in my bag along with the Microgel. They weren't all that different from one another and it was an easy transition if I needed a subtle change or broke a string. I usually blame the racquet when I play poorly. :) I had my best luck with the Microgel when using 17ga or 18ga string at mid tension. Solinco Tour Bite worked really well for me in that frame but I also really liked Head Velocity multi. I have played them both anywhere from 57-61 pounds but I might try them again at <50. I had never hit with anything below 57 no matter what the frame, but I tried 48 in my current Prince Chrome and loved it. I may string up a Microgel at low tension today now that I am thinking about it again.

The MG Radical MP is an allround good racket for most players liking a lighter players bat. It has a relatively soft flex which imo is nice and with some lead at 3 and 9 plus silicone it works just fine. I do prefer the MIA Radical tour midplus zebra though, as I like that old-school feel and mass.

Ah, that one is a bit harder to get hands on though.

An update to the thread, since I wasn't convinced of the integrity of the re-issue I ended up pulling the trigger on two Youtek Radical MPs in perfect condition instead.

The re-issue MG Rad MP is a great racquet. I have one original that feels very similar, but it has weight in the handle area (put in the mold between the graphite tubes) that is further up than the re-issues. The reissues are just slightly more polarized, which I prefer.

I own (and use) many of the re-issues, and they play great. Never tried the old ones, but if they're even flexier, not sure I'd like them. It's a shame TW recently ran out of stock. At $89, they've been the best deal among all racquets for the last 6-7 years imo.

Just bought myself a couple of MG radical MP rackets that will be arriving on Tuesday.

They're brand new from a UK retailer so I imagine there's no doubt they're going to be the re-issued versions.

Just interested whether @bfroxen or @DonDiego you modified yours with additional mass? Lots of people reckon the racket needs a few grams of lead in the frame for additional power and in the handle for more stability.

Just curious what you did?
