Years ago I bagged 4 Wilson PS Classic 6.1's

Always wanted to try the super hot PS Classic 4.2 95 but never could justify pulling the trigger. Had a big serve and volley opponent back in the day who used to hit absolute bombs with those frames.

Well today in the thrift store there was a near mint 4.2 Classic 95 for $14 bucks.

Now I have one just for giggles!

$14 I plunk down the cash all day:)

Another racquet to hide from the mrs.

Sweet! That one was very popular among Wilson-sponsored coaches (the young, strong-of-elbow ones) at the time. One guy I worked with refused to teach or play with anything else, even for free, after they were discontinued. Enjoy!

People here talk about the 6.1 Classic a lot, but the 4.2 could really bomb the ball.
Did the 4.2 come out first, same time, or what?

Read Venus used the PS 4.2 110. It's more damped than the 6.1, more like the HPS 6.1 18x20, the 12.9 oz. version.

if you have abbreviated strokes or immaculate timing, you will love, Love, LOVE this racket!

Probably gonna be too cold here to day to have a demo hit but here is a picture for your viewing pleasure....

The string is fresh, uncut, appears to be Sensation, hit a few volleys off the back of the house and feels mid range....so she is ready to go. Should be able to hit normally the way it is set up.

Here she is:

Mid-'70s to low-'80s here for the next few days. Come on down and hit a few! :)

I had a few customers who stuck with the 4.2 for quite a while. I always thought it was a 'better' racket than the 6.1, just nowhere near as popular. It likely was strung too tight initially for most folks, turning them off with the harshness. The finish started looking pretty ratty after a few chips, as well.

Just remind those that use that racquet and any version of the Pro Staff 6.1 to contact Wilson for a bumperguard and grommet set annually and cover up that damage. May be surprised how stiff and brittle that strip becomes and how much more of a cushioned feel a new set provides. Have a 4.2SI 95 but came with a Fairway grip.

Agree 100%.

This one has a relatively fresh bumper on it and is freshly strung....dunno how she ended up in a thrift shop.

Problem is of course if I like it then the quest begins for another one:oops:

Hit this about 15 minutes today....just groundstrokes, actually used her to warm up with.

Feels like I remember the 6.1 Classic until you make contact with the ball.

Crack, zoom.....man this baby has some power. Had to believe such a powerful stick can have such a buttery feel. No good for my current fast, long, loopy swing tho I could certainly adapt my game to it if I had to. A day might come sooner than I hope where a pair of these in my bag could be just the ticket. Luckily, that day has not arrived yet.

Didn't hit any serves with it but I expect it would be solid....I expect a lot of adjustment time would be needed at the net, the ball just leaps off the strings.

I expect I will use it as a coaching racquet when my daughter and I hit the courts again this summer for drills.....with some decent technique and timing and zero effort this stick hits the ball in. Will be a great ball feeding frame I think.......

I can see pretty clearly how some folks would fall in love with it as a gamer.....power like a pusher frame but looks and feels like a players stick. Pretty cool concept that could probably sell today if marketed correctly.

Various closets and at my mother's house in a pinch......

Inside a head cover/single racquet bag that can fit two. Then I find out if she is going to show up to the court later and make sure I'm playing with something she has already seen. Oh boy...
