Time for Federer to rethink his racquet? (Tennis.com)

Interesting article ...probably the racquet change will help or at least give him new jolt or maybe a little false reason that he needs to get back his mojo ;)

• Could the mere five points that separated them on the Centre Court eventually have been reversed with five more square inches in Federer racquet?

• Didn't know that he was using a 85 frame earlier.

• On using larger frame with hybrid polyester/gut stringing: “You can still swing hard and have control,” said Sampras in San Jose. “It’s a great combination, almost like cheating!”

• Fed's forehands is estimated at 4,400 rpm!

• Nadal's forehands is estimated 4,800 rpm!!

• The first player to win a Grand Slam title with a composite midsize racquet was Mats Wilander at the French Open in 1982 (Rossignol F200 Carbon)

• The first player to win a Grand Slam title with an oversized racquet was Michael Chang at the French Open in 1989 (Prince Graphite 110)

just my opinion.

it may help him. He can certainly use a 95 racket and still beat everyone else if he is playing at his good level.

what matters is probably on his bad days. the bigger racket will help him more when he is having a bad day and playing tough opponents.

When he was playing so well last few years, it seems ridiculous to change. But time goes by and the status quo has changed. He should consider it. The dominant days are gone and won't return.

It's not his racquet that's the problem... it seems his passion for the game is just not what it used to be. I wonder if we'll see him pull a Borg or Henin.

it would hurt him before it would help him... if it would help him at all. no reason to change the formula that won him 12 slams.

It's an interesting article.

However, 4,800 RPM (Nadals estimated topspin forehand spin) is 80 RPS... is that accurate? That seems like an awful lot of rotations per second for a tennis ball.

He needs to "switch his mindset". Federer's losses against Nadal happen between his ears ... not in his hand.

Nadal is something else when it comes to topspin, so yeh id believe it.

Find 80 RPS a little hard to believe, there again I haven't stood on the other side of the net. 80 rps would quickly dissapate surely. That must be the measure at leaving the racquet face.

It sys Feds spins per sec is 73.

Wonder really that the diff of 7 revolutions per second is really that much of a big difference they make it out to be.
