Today is the biggest match of Jerzy Janowicz's life

I would rank this even above his Masters final in terms of importance, because if he wins today he'll be the overwhelming favorite on his side of the draw to make the SF of the greatest tournament in tennis. That's a career-making prospect. Good luck to him today against Almagro, who took him out in tight straight sets at the Australian R3 this year.

QFT...I said basically the same thing in the "Jerzy Shore" thread, emphasizing the impact such a run would have on his ranking and subsequent seeding at the slams. It's not easy to win a title having to play five big matches in a row!

I'd say it's not quite as big, because "being the favorite" doesn't really count for much. I'd say that if he gets to the quarterfinal, that'll be a huge match, but the third round really isn't. It's big because he hasn't had much Grand Slam success yet, but there's only so big a 3rd round can be; he's not so dominating as to be "penciled in" to the semis even if he wins here.

I'd say his masters final is bigger than a Grand Slam R16 but a quarterfinal would be a bigger match than the masters final, and the semi even more so - IF he gets to either of those.

Well look at his draw. He got a big juice cake prepared and he still wont make the semis.

That guy is all hype.

so it's a rematch of the AO... where almagro won 76 76 61.

He's got a chance, basically that scoreline in the AO tells me that JJ lost 2 close sets and ran out of gas in the third, considering that this is grass and considerably faster than the AO I can still a realistic chance for him to win it. It's his first match on Centre Court as well right?

Jerzy is better than he was just a few months ago and has looked pretty good lately.

Big chance to get some points, money and move on.

JJ has got Bercy final and 4 top 10 wins to justify the hype.

So a fluke masters final, 4TOP10 wins and ZERO TITLES justify the hype around soon to be 23 year old player? wow

Thanks, but I'll stick to Cilic and JMDP who achieved way more so far, being less then 2 years older than this hypemachine.

I don't see hype as a bad thing. For me, hype is fun. Maybe he lives up to it, maybe not. I enjoy his game regardless of the hype.

The hype man destroyed Cilic in Bercy.

Cilic? Ah yeah, the guy who got 9 singles titles across all surfaces(clay, grass, HC) and 8 RUs. Not to forget a major SF and several QFs at the age of 24.

And since when f'ards like you regard H2Hs?

Pretty convincing result but tomorrow now becomes even more important in the points hunt. He had a chance to play second week last year but FloMay prevailed. Anybody know what his record is vs lefties???

That was quick, Batz! Did you just have a double espresso?

I went to his last ten match list and the sole win must have been over Ramos @RG (straight sets). Who handed him the four losses? He's facing Melzer for the first time.

This year he is 1-2 versus lefties.

He won at RG against Ramos, but lost to Ramos in Barcelona. In Miami he lost to Bellucci.

In 2012, he also lost against Bellucci this time in Moscow (indoor hard).

In 2011, he lost a qualifying match against Falla but I'm not sure if that counts.

You guys are great! I guess Batz went back to his finger of single-malt:twisted:!

I still like JJ to win vs Melzer, avoiding a case of Stakitosis with a similar letdown. Probably a TB or two, but no Melzdown. Jerzy in 4!

Yup everything is fluke. Nadal's 8 RG, Federer's 7 W, Novak's 4 AO.

Horrible, just horrible comparison. Y'know, since they got all multiple majors to back up their first major win, not that it's really necessary. A major is well deserved in every case.

JJ got nothing not even a 250 final, let alone title, to back up that fluke run in Paris Bercy.

He's been 'known' to the tennis world for 6 months. In that time he's gotten to a M1000 Final and Quarter-Final, and has reached at least the 3rd round in all the slams he's entered. He's beaten 2 top 10 players in Tsonga and Gasquet and has pushed Federer. And he's got a pretty good shot of getting to the Wimbledon semi-finals. In case you hadn't realised he's also become the most talked about non-top 4 player on this board in recent days. All in 6 months :) Exactly this time last year he had been ranked in the 200's.

So, JJ has retired and fluke Bercy final happened 10 years ago. Is n't it?
