Trivia factoid reflecting the length of Evert's career, and some of the talent she played against.

Legend
Evert at one time or another, played at least one singles match against every Grand slam singles finalist in the Open era from 1968-1998, 42 of 48 total over a 30 year span except 5 singles finalists: Haydon-Jones, Hingis, Majoli, Pierce, Davenport, and Anke Huber. The missing name un accounted for, of course, is her own.

She played King, Tegart-Dalton, Goolagong, Court, Morazova, Wade, Stove, Navratilova, Mandlikova, Jaeger, Graf, Garrison, Sabatini, Seles, Novatna, Martinez, Sanchez-Vicario, and Tauziat who reached Wimbledon finals plus Mastoff, Gourlay, Barker, Tomanova, Jausovec, Mihai, Ruzici, Hanika, Zvereva, Fernandez who reached French Open finals, and Richey, Casals, Melville, Reid, Turnbull, Shriver, Austin, Sukova who reached US Open finals and Fromholtz, O'Neil, Nagelson, Barbara and Kathy Jordan, Walsh, who reached Aussie finals.

The way she lingered the ball back was something methodical

Only a player of her caliber could have stayed in the game so consistently to have achieved all these records while not playing aggressive, attacking tennis until late in her career

The players today such as Badosa try to emulate the style but they are too impatient and in my honest opinion the game is far too physical now for such emulation without having a naturally keen ball sense... As of now I worry that Paula is going to injure herself trying to be number two after Iga, but Chrissy took it one match that a time, and look at where she ended up once the book was at last closed

I just don't think its possible to create anything close to the game and mind of another Chris Evert , because it requires that someone be raised with those ocean winds, with those wood rackets from a very early age. No other setting creates that absolute need for total concentration, perfect emotional calm, patience and ball control. That young girl simply could not afford to let her concentration drift, take her eye off the ball, any lazy footwork, or allow herself the luxury of getting upset and still beat girls three years older, stronger and faster. I cannot imagine creating a Chris Evert or Tracy Austin and starting them with modern graphite racket.

Evert was among the most resilient and mentally tough players as demonstrated by losing 13 in a row to Martina but not quitting and still winning Slams after that. She got 18 slams despite missing many early AO tournaments. In addition, she won 87 single titles outside of Clay which demonstrated her skills in all four surfaces.

Even more impressive list is Monica Seles's. Slam champions only: Evert, Navratilova, Graf, Sanchez-Vicario, Novotna, Sabatini, Pierce, Davenport, Hingis, Venus, Serena, Henin, Clijsters, Mauresmo, Sharapova...

[/QUOTE .

Actually, the first 4 of those names are duplicates and you forgot to include Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez who they both played. The multiple grand slam winners Evert played that Monica did not are :Court, King, Goolagong, Wade, Mandlikova, Austin, and RG winners Barker, Jausovec, and Ruzici, and Aussie champions Melville Reid, Barbara O'Neil, and Barbara Jordan

I did not forget to include Martinez. And the first 4 names are not actually duplicated, those are overlapping names.
Not sure what the names you are mentioning later in the post have to do with my comment.

I am not seeing Martinez here from Post #6 you wrote this which I copy and paste ".... Slam champions only: Evert, Navratilova, Graf, Sanchez-Vicario, Novotna, Sabatini, Pierce, Davenport, Hingis, Venus, Serena, Henin, Clijsters, Mauresmo, Sharapova...

Was this not designed as a complete list of slam champions that Monica Seles played against at some time during her career, or did she never play Conchita Martinez, or did Conchita Martinez never win a slam?

I assumed the purpose of your post was to constrict the list from players who reached slam finals, to players who won slam finals and present Monica Seles list for comparison and offer your opinion on which was more 'impressive'. . So I did the same thing with Evert to narrow the data in my list to conform with yours. I was leaving any judgement about which is more impressive to the readers and you.

The names that are on both lists, yours and mine do overlap and were duplicates on both lists, because they overlapped.

Don't be difficult just to be difficult, skag.

The fact that you are not seeing her does not mean that I have forgotten Martinez. What it means is that you have gotten to a conclusion that I have forgotten her, and that your conclusion was based on wrong assumptions.

It was, of course, not designed as a complete list(see "..." at the end of the list, in my original post or in your copy past duplicate).

So, I hope you understand now that the names do not "actually duplicate".

As you can see, it wasn't as difficult as you thought it was at first.

Not sure what "skag" is in this context.
