A good first day matchup at the U.S Open pits Marcos Baghdatis against Max Mirnyi. Mirny is one of a now reduced group of quality serve-volley players on tour. Baghdatis of course is an all around shotmaker, who is unpredictable. They have only played once, and it was this year on clay, not exactly the forte of either player but probably favoring Baghdatis still in terms of surface preference relative to Mirnyi. Mirnyi still won in 2 sets 7-5, 6-4, in the first round of Monte Carlo.
