US Open questions

Last year we went to the Open and had a blast, we bought passes for the day session in Ashe, and got to see a few matches there from the nosebleeds, as well as an awesome match with Massu on one of the showcourts.

This year I am planning on going on Labor Day, and had a few questions, thanks!

-If I get a grounds pass, is it good for the whole day? The only place I can't go with a grounds pass is Ashe, right?

-If I do get a ticket for the Ashe day session, who checks my ticket to make sure I don't try to get in during the night session? Once the day session at Ashe is over, I can still have access to the Grandstand, Armstrong, and the show courts, right? If I buy a night session pass to Ashe, can I still roam around the place during the day and have access to Grandstand, Armstrong, and the show courts?

-Since I'm going on the second Monday, will I be seeing mostly juniors on the show courts, since some of the pros will be going home after getting beaten?

Any other tips? The food last year was ridiculously expensive. Will they let me take in a sandwich and some drinks?

Last year I went for the first time and just got day grounds passes so no Arthur Ashe, but I thought the seats would be horrible and enjoyed matches at Louis, Grandstand, and then was able to sit up very close for good matches on the smaller courts.

I think if you just get the night pass, you can only get in the gate in the early evening like maybe 5 or 6PM.

I watched 11 hours of tennis last year on the first Saturday with a $46 grounds pass. Then got another 8 hours on Sunday. Well worth it. The tennis on Sunday was mostly doubles and not as enjoyable as Saturday. Second Monday would be more juniors and doubles events. If I go ago I would pick the first Friday and Saturday.

Eat a big breakfast and then eat filling foods while you are there so you don't have to pay so much for food. If you have a bag you will have to wait in a long line before getting in as they inspect it. I think last year they did allow people to bring in food again after a year where they didn't allow it.

Yes...you are allowed to bring food, but if I remember correctly, it can only be something like "personal size"...meaning they will probably frown if you brought 10 sandwiches in a big cooler...

...then again, last year, I did see some people bring personal coolers with them...(the bag type)

Ground pass allows you to see all matches except for the one on Ashe for thewhole day. At nite, they kick out everyone in Ashe, and then let only the night people into Ashe. If you have grounds pass you can still stay an watch all of the remaining matches on the other courts. You can stay all nite and watch the nite match on the monitor and have dinner.

Kehvhen (sp) I was there on the first Saturday last year, the best 11 hours of tennis ever.

You cannot bring in the backpack anymore, so buy one of those small, small totes (stupid rule), no big cameras (another stupid rule), no excessive food etc..

One more trick, try not to eat lunch there, too expensive, get your hand stamp, walk out the main gate (the one everyone uses, not the Globe one) and buy food from the park vendor. US Open can not prevent the normal park authorized vendor from selling very reasonable food, so get your $1.50 hot dogs instead of $9 hot dogs. Of course, if you stay long enough, you'll have to eat dinner inside.

Years ago, I would bring in 2 gallons of water and food for the entire day with snacks on my hinking back pack. Those days are long gone.
