The apology should be sincere, unexcused or unmitigated by 'explanation' or exposition, concise, and given under similar circumstances as the misdeed was.

She meant exactly what she said.
Otherwise she'd have said "the controversy was regrettable" or "the dispute was regrettable". She said "outcome" and "we" because that's exactly what she meant. Totally detached from reality, she even applauded serena for being a noble champion. It's just breathtaking really, and they're trying to contort their way put of it.

Worst slam in ages.

I'm not quite sure what she is supposed to be apologising for. She is not responsible for wilful misinterpretation or the misbehaviour of the crowd.

Extending some sympathy to Ramos given the unfortunate situation mainly provoked by Williams' over-reaction would of course be appropriate.

BTW all the apology should be public and in writing. Otherwise it's not worth a brazz farthing.

I would hope you're right.
However, poor judgement on her part.
A public figure will know any words are open to interpretation. And she has an Office behind her. Any official worth their salt would have double checked her speech beforehand.

I speak from experience.

I happen to believe that a public figure should be educated enough to articulate her ideas clearly. If she is not capable of such a minor thing, what's going on in her head with respect to some more sophisticated staff?

Have you bothered to read the thread opener? For the entire world the US Open 2018 is closely associated with the scandal monger Serena Williams and the support rendered to her by two official organization - USTA and WTA.

Another close association is ugly behavior of Americal public highly biased and outwardly rude which made the champion Naomi Osaka cry during the award ceremony. If you want to have American champins only, rename this tournament to US Closed and play your games in your own kindergarten. And the grand slam tournament can be relocated to a better place where public organizations have nore justice, and public better manners.

Who cares about your security routine and foodstock outside the gates of the Flushing Meadows!

She either knew this. Or she didn't.

Who cares ? Possibly people that want a picture of how the event unfolded for attendees in a watershed year with the new stadium and new night sessions and larger crowds and other changes. So, no, it wasn’t a mess as you said — overall the USTA did a good job.

Also it’s not my security routine it’s the USTAs (I assume in coordination with L.E.) and I have no clue what “foodstock outside the gates of Flushing Meadows” means.

Yes agree, Seles stabbing was worse! That was committed by "deranged" fan of her opponent. At the USO, sirena, "the greatest champion in tennis history" did it to the game--she should know better after having committed the same offense and been fined for it. But, when you have the full backing of the head of the USTA and the WTA, queens katrina and BJK, what do you expect?!? They'll probably be renaming Arthur Ashe or Louis Armstrong stadiums in sirena's honor.

BTW, putting bartlbee on my ignore list. apparently his country of Freedonia has no tennis websites so he is forced to come to the USA to spew his hatred for the greatest country in history and to shill for sirena and nike. I'm also shredding my USTA card and will lobby for the tournaments I play in to break away from USTA--who need's 'em. I don't need a plastic card in my wallet to play tennis. Aso, it's great news that the umpire's will boycott sirena's matches--it's terrible working conditions, and being under the thumbs of bosses like sirena that brought about the creation of the organized labor movement. No human should be degraded and shamed on the world stage, as Carlos Ramos and other USTA officials have been at past sirena events.

It is great to see/hear another expert in umpiring explaining the intangibles in situations like that.

I especially liked how he didn't speculate about whether Ramos gave a "soft" warning, but instead described several scenarios how that could have been the case without even saying anything and also that sometimes the circumstances doesn't facilitate such.

Great interview.

I think that Serena Williams (by her behaviour at the USO generally and not having 7 singles titles) has highlighted and strenghened the case for the Louis Armstrong Stadium to be named after Chris Evert.
For that Serena, I thank you. :)

And Evert being in the photos with both Williams and Osaka won't have hurt. :)

Katrina seems like a classy lady, no way though can Serena be described as graceful or classy on court. I do think some are a bit too critical of Katrina's comments after the final, even though I support Carlos. Being an American, Black, and probably a friend of Serena, it is natural and understandable that she would initially support Serena. If she did apologize to Carlos, then good for her!

She is supposed to be apologizing for her misbehavior of Osaka and all this awful organization by USTA.
