Receiving Votes: Tennessee 7, Alabama 2, NC State 1, South Carolina 1, Texas Tech 1.

Dropped Out: Tennessee.

Voting Panel: Casey Angle (former Intercollegiate Tennis Association Director of Championships); Jordan Bishop (The News Press; Stillwater, Okla.); Virgil Christian (USTA Collegiate Tennis); Richard Croome (The Eagle; Bryan, Texas); Sonny Dearth (Daily Press; Newport News, Va.); Granger Huntress (Texas College Tennis); Randy Jenks (Universal Tennis Ratings); Bobby Knight (College Tennis Today); Dallas Oliver (Tennis Recruiting Network); Michael Patrick (former University of Tennessee women’s head coach) and Lisa Stone (Parenting Aces).

Each team's point total, specified below, is the sum of its ranking points from the USTA's panel of 11 voters (listed below). Each voter ranked 25 teams from Nos. 1 to 25, with the first-place team receiving 25 points and the last-place team receiving one. For control, the highest and lowest outlying ranking for each team on the ballot was removed. Therefore, the maximum number of points a team can receive is 225. First-place votes were not tallied.

Notre Dame and Vanderbilt should be higher. Stanford should be at 3, behind OSU and Wake and ahead of UCLA, who I’m skeptical about being 2-5. Sure they beat OSU, but OSU seemed to have a bit of an off day.

Pretty good list though

A poll is only as good as the panel voting. Lisa Stone knows literally nothing about men's and women's college tennis or these teams. Just because you like tennis doesn't mean you know what is going on. Other than that, the panel is strong. No way Dartmouth is top 25 and the ITA poll is a sham at this point of the season.

Wake is surely #1. not sure who should be #2, but at this point in the season Ohio State and Stanford should probably be ahead of UCLA just because they have scored more significant victories in the season. Looking at match results and stats, Stanford is 8-1 (only lost to Wake ranked #1), including wins over 4 top 10 opponents, and beat UCLA a few weeks ago. UCLA is 11-2 but a lot of the wins were against low ranked teams, and they have lost 2 matches against top 10 opponents. Ohio state is 10-1, their only loss to UCLA last week who was lower ranked. For these reasons, my top 4 would be:

1- Wake
2- Stanford
3- Ohio State
4- UCLA

I mostly agree with your logic. I would however give UCLA the number 3 spot over Ohio State simply because the Bruins won the head-to-head matchup and they reached the finals of the Indoor Championships.

And they should not be penalized for losing two matches vs. Ohio State losing one match, because they lost to #1 and #2 and beat everyone else.

I personally like the ITA rankings best. It's a good system. Yeah they are wonky early in the year but it's a much more fair way to rank teams and forces teams to schedule intelligently with an eye on their ranking. Also has no bias toward blue bloods.

... and it's the system used for entry into the NCAA's, so it's the one that matters and the one that people think about when quoting their ranking. The poll is definitely interesting to look at though.
