Varying gauges in poly/poly

I've tried three poly/poly hybrids. The first was Solinco Tour Bite Soft 1.20/Weiss Cannon Mosquito Bite red 1.16. The next was Discho Black Mamba 1.23/Pro's Pro Black Force 1.14. The most recent is Pro's Pro iString Soft 1.25/Mosquito Bite red.

I noticed that when the main strings' gauge is quite a bit thicker than that of the cross string, the stringbed has more comfort and less feel and control. It may be a better experiment to compare SPPP 1.23 to SPPP 1.23/SPPP 1.18. But comparing a full set of Mosquito Bite to iString Soft 1.25/Mosquito Bite, the disparity in the gauges did produce an increase in comfort and a decrease in feel. The Tour Bite Soft/Mosquito Bite test, with a small difference in gauge, produced good comfort with minimal feel and a great amount of control.

I had read reports that recommended using a thinner gauge in the crosses, but it wasn't explained what the result would be. I assumed it would produce more spin, but now I'm finding that it gives more comfort than I really want. I prefer more feel and control, so perhaps I'll keep looking for strings that will combine for control, feel, and some comfort. I may have to revisit poly/nylon hybrids.

Try using thicker crosses than mains. This is what I use to tame ESP frames.

I'll try Black Force 1.14/Mosquito Bite (~1.19) next and see how that is in my Biomimetic 200. I'm also going to try to go even on my tensions for Mosquito Bite/OGSM 17 in my MuscleWeave 200G to try to beat the notching on the OGSM.

I have been using this setup: Diadem Elite XT 15l in the mains @54lbs and isospeed black fire 17 in the mains @57lbs. It has given me comfort, good ball pocketing and control!

I'm glad you found a setup that suits you well. I'm looking for less comfort and I'm hoping a thinner main string with Mosquito Bite crosses will accomplish that. Or maybe the Mosquito Bite is the culprit.

My impression is feeling mostly comes from crosses and power mostly comes from mains. I use best feeling string in the crosses and switch around in the mains. One good setup recently was 4g rough 1.25 mains and SPPP 1.18 crosses with 4g rough 2 lbs less.

My favorite so far is Mosquito Bite red/OGSM 17 natural @52/55 in my signature racquet. Unfortunately, the OGSM gets notched easily by the MB. Is there a similar but more durable string to OGSM that anyone can recommend? Maybe I should have started with this question.

I agree with you on the crosses providing most of the feel. That's why I've been trying to use the Mosquito Bite in the crosses. It is my favorite full bed so far in my signature racquet. Maybe I'm getting closer. I'm planning on trying PP Black Force 1.14/MB @52/51 next, unless someone gives me a good reply to my previous post.
