Volkl C10 Pro and 4G?

Hi,

I am waiting for my demo of the Volkl C10 Pro this week and want to know in advance what would be the best string set up for this stick.

I read Chris' review on C10 Pro and he recommended a poly string because the frame is soft but powerful. So, I want to try a full bed of poly for C10 Pro and wonder if 4G might be a good shot.

C10 pro users, please let me know your favorite string set up for this stick!:)

Thanks in advance!!

So first if you are a 5.0 or plus player with exquisit timing go with what Chris said and I believe he even lists his poly of choice. I am not in that category 4.0, alot of strength, alot of Gym time but timing is the most important aspect of power not overall strength. So I enjoy the hybrid strings Klip X-Plosive gut in mains poly in crosses if durabilit a factor reverse it poly in mains, gut in crosses, my set 55 lbs in gut mains and 53 in poly crosses

I used full bed of gut just once and my stick was Pure Storm Tour and the tension was 58. It was way too powerful than I expected, and someone said that the power level of C10 pro is similar or even higher than PST. So, I am not sure whether gut or multi would tame the power of C10 pro.

Is poly setup only for 5.0 or up players?

Chris has written that he finds the C10 Pro quite "powerful" and gave it an 85 score in that category, the highest score for power he has given to a frame categorized in the "players'" category, as far as I recall anyway. He has also written that he likes a stiff poly at relatively high tension in the C10 to tame this "power." Now, not everyone feels the C10 is so powerful; many have complained over the years that it's a noodle with a feeble upper hoop. But if you do find it powerful, and feel that this power needs the taming that a stiff copoly can provide (a slight decrease in shot speed, very slight, some extra spin for depth control, along with a relatively low rebound angle), then 4G would be a good choice. Lab tests show it is in the stiffest 20% of all copolys tested. It also happens to be the current champ for tension loss in TWU's lab tests, which could help offset its high cost.

Thank you!

I will get the demo today, but I do not think I can test it today due to weather. Yes, I heard some say C10 pro is relatively powerful and others say that the upper hoop is flex, so I am not sure whether this frame is indeed powerful or not. TU seems to say that the power potential is almost similar to PDR, so I thought this frame, for a players stick, is very powerful. I will see it when I can demo it as soon as possible.

I am stringing the C10 pro with multis at 60 lbs. and this is working out fine for me. Every once in a while an over hit shot will go long, but it's quite controllable with a little spin. Poly just does not work for my middle aged arm, even in a more comfortable frame like this. You may have to experiment a bit, but in any case the C10 is a great stick.

So you're going to restring the demo? Does TW allow that?

No, I do not think TW will allow you to restring the demo.

I will ask TW what string/tension they gave for demo and see what others have for C10 Pro. In case that I decide to order this stick, I want to know in advance which set up is good based on others' comments and the demo set up that I will try.

Thanks for your comment!

I usually had multis at 58 lbs for my Pure Storm Tour, and it was good though I sometimes overhit it. If C10 pro is similar to PST powerwise, I think multi at 60 sounds good to me. I also use poly too, so I am wondering how low I can go with poly. Maybe 55 or lower?

So maybe missed my point, I did not recomend a full gut but a hybrid, I think this is workable, in fact stringers here have stated Federer uses a gut poly hybrid
