Volkl

Hi, I am currently using Volkl Cyclone as a main with Genesis black magic as a cross. I am looking to try some other Volkl strings as a main, V Square, V Torque Tour and V Star. I am chasing some extra spin, pocketing and some extra power, any suggestions?
Cheers Greg

V Square is a great comfortable string. A pain to tring the racket with but love it... feels soft and pocketing is nice... Not the best control, but the added spin helps...

I'm currently using V-square crossed with Yonex Poly Tour Fire - I find it more consistent than FB V-squared and arm friendly.

Any particular reason you want/need to stay with Volkl? V-Square has some nice aspects (namely spin) but tension maintenance is not all that great. There are other square options that would do better in that department, such as Tecnifibre 4S (previously called Black Code 4S) or Solinco Hyper-G / Hyper-G Soft, or slightly different shapes that may give equivalent spin (ex: Tier One Firewire, which is triangular).

Not to change things up too much, but to enhance snapback, you might also consider a larger tension differential between mains and crosses and/or a narrower gauge of Black Magic, or trying an alternative cross such as Tier One Ghost Wire.

I have tried a heap of different crosses and have decide to stay with BM 1.23 as it does everything I want. It's round and has great pocketing and reasonable power as well as great tension maintenance. I only want to have one variable and just decided to give some of the other offerings from Volkl a try as they all appear to be slightly softer than Cyclone. Have tried Black Code and Hyper G and prefer Cyclone over both. I will probably get a couple of sets of each and just give them a go one at a time. I also have Signum Pro Tornado plus BM in one of my other racquets and it fells really good but not as much spin as Cyclone

Gotcha Greg. Seems you've got pretty extensive experience then with the alternatives and you know what you like. I myself have Cyclone in one of my VC95's and enjoy it very much.

If you're set on staying with Volkl, you might also consider Cyclone Tour if you haven't tried it already. Once you've played enough with V-Square and/or others, do come back and let us know they've performed.
