Was I in the Wrong Here? Or Justified?

That's why I recently started to keep a tennis log with
a) player scouting reports, and
b) match reports....
c) practice session goals & assessment.
I find it's really useful to practice different strategies, even you practice against the same player all the time. Serve-and-volley is usually low percentage play against my current regular hitting partner, who is an excellent returner who likes to stand on top of the baseline. But I like to do it against him sometimes, because if I never practice it, that skill won't be ready enough when I need it against a different player where it is a good option.

Also, I usually play sets in practice. But the tennis scoring system, with only 4 points needed to win a game, encourages conservative play. If I make one error, then I'm in a hole and my chance of winning the game went down a lot. I like to also play baseline games to 11 sometimes. I find that I tend to play a more aggressive riskier style in these games simply due to the scoring. With 11 points needed to win, a single lost point is not nearly as big a deal. There's plenty of time to come back. So this way I can practice hitting a little harder than I usually do. And even if I lose, the psychological effect of losing a game to 11 is not nearly as deflating as getting beat 6-2 by my regular hitting partner (who I'm usually slightly better than) had I played overly aggressively and lost a set quickly.

Hitting harder than I usually do in pratice at times pays off later against certain players because I will need to be able to execute my shots with more velocity than my usual safe style.

Justified. I've seen kids skateboarding on my local courts before (despite a giant sign telling them not to do exactly that), I can relate.

Hey now, as an avid golfer a soccer field or baseball diamond is a great place to practice some wedge shots. I was guilty of this during the shutdown when all the golf courses and driving ranges were closed.

Sure, the shutdown is one thing. When everything was closed, I understand people improvising to get some recreation / exercise in.

But outside of the shutdown, IMHO it seems unnecessary (and in my view at least, potentially unsportsmanlike) to play your sport on the fields/courts of another - especially if doing so would prevent others from playing the sport the field/court is intended for...or worse - that doing so could damage the surface.

Agreed, I was partially kidding. But yes I did go out there a couple of times in desperation when everything was closed, around dusk with no one else there. I would never hit golf balls in a crowded park.
Going back to the comments made about the MILF yoga classes I used to give lessons to a woman at some public High School courts and every Sunday morning there would be an exercise boot camp. I believe this is actually the term they give themselves. Yelling and screaming at one another as they do push ups and squats. They took up not one, but two whole courts. I can’t imagine trying to play a league match through all that shouting.

25 years ago, I lived for a year in Miami Lakes, FL. I used to play tennis in the evening on the hardcourts under the lights at Don Shula’s Athletic Club. During the NFL season, the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders would occupy a couple of courts next to me and play music to practice their dance routines. I didn’t mind.

Totally justified.

Happens at my local public courts all the time. Along with dog owners that think it’s a dog park. While there is a huge grass field adjacent.

I hate people.
